Video Technology

It would be excellent if it was rolled out. Just think we would have nothing to loose! Aside from the A.Johnson and maybe Dzeko pen's what decisions have gone our way? This season, we have hardly benefited at all from referee decisions, and then you look at United being gifted 10-15 points for ludicrous calls (just this month!!!), where in reality, video technology could arguably reduce this.

All City need to do is keep playing the way they are, and as or when the technology is implemented, im sure we will see an inverse correlation in the rise/amount of technology to the amount of points uShited finishes with each season.

I've worked for an outside broadcast company for the premier league and all those saying it would slow the game don't know what they're on about. These people can get a replay ready in 2 seconds. Then add say 5-8 seconds for the fourth offical to judge a simple decision and can relay that back to the ref and all under 30 seconds. If you only give managers 2 appeals or whatever it would benefit the game no end. I wouldn't care if a game ran a little longer knowing that the reason a team won a game was because they were the better team and not because some incompetent guy with a whistle made the wrong decision.

It's all about what is better for the game rather than what is good for us or any other side for that matter.

Penalties , Offsides and goalline incidents seem to be the main focus of contention.

It should be trialled with goal line incidents and if successful extended to include other key areas of contention.

Imagine the tension when a goal that was given is reversed or a goal that wasn't given is subsequently given or a ref gets it right first time albeit all within a few seconds of the incident occurring.

It will add another dimension to the game which is long overdue and refs will have less pressure on them and come under less scrutiny / criticism which can only mean that in the long term better refs are attracted and stay in the game.

In the long run I am sure that the seeming corruption element that some believe does exist will be eroded as well.

Its the 5-8 secs for for the 4th official to judge that's unrealistic. The 4th official will have to look at every camera angle. I've seen numerous RL games where the first few camera angle leads to one conclusion, then the final camera shot turns out to be the decisive one that leads to the opposite decision.

Even once the 4th official has decided whether or not its a goal it often takes an age to decide how to re-start the game. Think back to the Liverpool v Chelsea CL semi final in 2005 (?).

In RL, video decisions started out being fairly quick. Then they got a few wrong because the VR rushed the decision. Now they can take 2-4 mins. Its not the technology that takes the time, its the decision making process.

If anyone thinks video decisions, other than goaline decisions, will be quick just look at the 20 odd replays of the final play in the Eng v wales RU international.

I fully support video technology and not just for goal line decisions but for contentious penalties and possible offside goals. Certain managers (*smile*) might not like it but it'd be a step forward to our league being a better one. The introduction of video tech and Al Jazeera winning Premier League rights from Sky would be progressive steps to a fairer and more impartial Premier League on and off the pitch.

For me it HAS to be brought in.

The reason FIFA are so backward is because they cry that it will ruin the sport for grassroots football?

I have seen NO evidence or cries from the Rugby or Cricket world in regard to it not being accessible at a lower level.

Although I am sceptical of what should be ''ruled'' by tv ref etc.

Goal Line - DEFINATELY
Offsides - ONLY if the linesman is not confident enough, e.g. if there is a yard in it.
Penalty Decisions - Again ONLY if the Referee or Linesman can be CERTAIN in the decison, if there is any doubt then refer to the TV ref/judge.
Off the ball incidents - DEFINATELY

Now, with the debatable and referring of decisions, the refs like I said must be confident enough, as if they get it wrong and follwowing a panel weekly, can be banned or suspended for making wrong decisions.

Sounds easy doesn't it, and us fans want the best and fairest of games.

Yet the old bigoted bureaucrats power rats at FIFA prefer to sit back and refuse to move the game forward, as that's not how THEY played it.

I think the way it has to be brought in is through the fourth official watching the game with quick replays - let the ref make the decisions and then the foutrth official does a quick check if the ref is BLATENTLY wrong then he lets him know and it's overturned.

Will make being at the game interesting as - PEN is given, supporters go wild, 10 secs later it's overturned and attacker gets yellow card, other supportersgo wild and take the mick.

I expect within a short time a lot of the diving would also stop in the box as the players would know whats coming.

Also if there is a off the ball incident then if 4th official seen it - lets ref know game stopped and player sent off immediately or booked at next normal break.

I don't see many down side to video technology

100% this, great call

Agreed - also we would have been 10 points clear of the rags if it had been bought in last summer. Maybe bacon is stalling it as long as he can with his power over the FA?? ;-)

Irony:
Martin Atkinson who gave the goal that wasnt over the line is one of the extra officials tomorrow night in the CL who are behind the goal line. Part of thier job is to see if the ball crosses the line /doh
