he will also be a leader on the pitch, something which we currently do not have at the moment.
Given and Bellamy are both leaders but Vieira's leadership skills are probably better.
also barry, kompany, toure, dejong the squad is full of leaders and winners

I am very worried as to who will be left out. If de jong is dropped i'd be disgusted. If we don't play wingers and either bellers or swp are missed out would be just as bad.

Frankly I'm rather surprised that Vieira would want to leave Inter Milan in the middle of a joint Champions League and Serie A title bid. Maybe he thinks that Chelski will knock them out in the next round. For me it's a good signing as NDJ is always likely to get injured or suspended. Zabaleta may feel aggrieved as he was destined for a midfield role if a new right back came, but otherwise its a win-win scenario.

this is a direct quote and explains why he is leaving inter

"I set myself an objective, I want to go to the World Cup," the 33-year-old former France captain and midfielder told television channel Eurosport.

"The important thing for me is to go to Manchester City and to show the coach (Roberto Mancini) I'm the same player than when he was in charge of Inter," he added.

"After a year in Turin and three and a half years in Milan, it's over. To go to the World Cup I need playing time and I can't reach my objective with Inter where I'm not a first choice player."

it is a squad game if the results are good who cares who is in or out they will be rotated anyway there is no way bellamy and vieira for example can play every game

He is not being bought for goals - we score them for fun - he is being bought for defensive and leadership qualities which is a huges for the team BUT who is going to make way for him.

What he has done in years gone by is pretty much irrelevent because he does not the play same role as he did in years gone by.

He offers MORE in attack than Dejong, nobody is saying he's an attacking player

Viera 104 goals in career
Dejong 11....

Point well made, but Nige does have 8 years on Patrick btw, although that would mean him hitting a dozen or so goals a season which is highly unlikely, he does however have the same snapping turtle tackles in him so Rags beware!!!

To the people who for some stange reason are worried about 18 month contact, i think it will probably be 6 months , with the possibility of a further 12months if successful

We all know now that Bobby Manc will change the set up mid game ...everyone will get their share of games..

we need a strong squad different horses for different courses.

Bang on....People need to realize we need a squad, not a first 11
