Vieira

I was hoping that when we signed him he would have a much bigger personal influence on the pitch, but we can still see, during the matches he figures, just what The Arse had for those seasons. His legs might not work the way they did but the brain is still very active. He can unpick a defence like no one, and in the days when inexperienced youth is exalted beyond its capacity he is experience personified. One of the best signings ever to walk onto the training ground.

OP - there are a lot of people on here that don't have a clue what they are talking about. Take rcent posts for example, "who will drop out for Balotelli" who drops out for "Boateng and Kolarov". As many people on here have previously said "it's a squad game nowadays".

Vieira's form has been hit and miss but nowhere near as bad or deserving of some of the comments he's received since joining. If you look at the games he's played so far the number of assists he's been responsible for is quite impressive for a central/holding midfielder.

Seems a lot of people have never given him a chance and blame him for Irelands departure. Utter bollocks of course but those people who decided he was too old and passed it before he kicked a ball are unlikely to ever change that opinion.

The comment he made to Micah was class, and so are some of the comments made by Guidetti ('If Vieira tells me something I listen, if you know what I mean') and the other players.

His days as a player are numbered although he put in a quality performance against West brom last week and if the other more experienced players had played as well as him we'd be in the next round of the cup now

I see more than a few posts on here slating Vieira as a guy who shouldn't have been signed, and is of no use.

After watching Boyata's post-Chelsea interview today, I now make that FIVE players who have said that they learn so much from him, and that he is a leader in the dressing room. Guidetti's comments about you doing what Vieira tells you made me laugh, and the comments to Richards about leaving training early made me think about the influence he has at the club.

I'd quite like to see him in a coaching role to be honest. The guy is a winner and has been a winner his whole career. When he comes on the pitch, he's very calm and assured which is useful for those games when we are playing players who need to be bedded in or are very young.

Also, just having a figure there who isn't the manager but is a mentor to all of the other players must be a great help. I'm sure Johnson and Ibrahim are earning a lot from him. Hell, I'm sure Yaya is learning a lot from him.

I think my point is, you can spend all the money in the world on players with all the flashy tricks, and I'm sure that they'll win you matches. However, the guys like Vieira, and their influence throughout each stage of the club are the guys who win you titles.

EDIT: The five are-
Guidetti
Ibrahim
Boyata
Richards
Kompany

Keep him off the pitch and he's fine.

But coaches earn £50K per year and players earn £50K in a few days.

Vieira is a good guy. His presence in the dressing room and in trainings is very influncial.

Good Signing

I think he'll play against Juve, De Jong has a knock doesn't he? Save him for Newcastle.

Has anyone noticed how some of Mancini's decisions that were questioned at first are now coming to fruition?

Vieira - RM knew he wasn't going to be our star player and wasn't going to play much. He obvioulsy knows the guy and what else he has to offer off the pitch.

Getting rid of players with the wrong attitude and were undermining the manager by telling tales out of class - look at the battle for the ball against Chelsea after DeJong was clattered - would we have seen team spirit like that last season.

Playing young players in big games - apart from a couple of lapses in concentration, Boyata played like a seasoned pro. Did he think he'd rather Boyata used to a bit of pressure last season when it would have been prefered to get into CL unlike this season when failure isn't an option.

Platt - whatever you think of him as a person, as a coach we haven't done too badly since his arrival.

And who else could wear a sweater with a suit and look so good?

David Platt is reputed to be on 18 times the figure you're quoting here.
