Villa fan found guilty of punching nine year old City fan at Cup Final

i recall seeing a photo of the dad in the Manchester evening news lying in a hospital bad , they had battered him senseless in front of his crying son , and he was unconcious for a long time ........ i'm was surprised that he'd left the ground , as the rest of the City fans had been held back by the police ..... there was an evil atmosphere at Elland Road that day.
From memory those of us in the South stand behind the goal weren't kept back we were able to leave at the final whistle. All the cops had buggered off to their Kop end when the trouble broke out, there was nobody on the gates.

I think that was after the riot Cup-tie in '78, the lad got smacked with a half-brick outside Elland Rd and nearly lost an eye IIRC.
I don't think it was that long ago lancs. I was at that FA Cup game in 1978 and don't remember anything like that.
I would have said more mid-late 80s. Maybe when City and Leeds were in the 2nd division.

Before I get launched for saying this, I don’t like Villa one bit and this arsehole should have got a lengthy prison sentence. But it is not that long ago that a very young Arsenal fan got twatted by a similar cowardly piece of shit from our support outside the Etihad. The sort of person who does something like this isn’t unique to any particular club and sadly a few of them exist in every fan base, ours included. I would like to think the vast majority of Villa fans are as disgusted by this as we are.

We were down the side of the ground , in the terrace pens around the halfway line , and we couldn't get out afterwards .... they kept us back for ages.

We knew Leeds were outside waiting because they were chucking stones and bricks over the wall.

I could have sworn it was after that Cup-tie, it was bedlam outside. Mind you with Leeds there could have been a few similar incidents at Elland Rd over the years.

I'd have to agree with you , i was there and I think it was an FA Cup tie .... the Leeds fans just lost their heads completely .... the whole atmopshere was one of fear and intimidation, and the aggresive reaction of our own fans didn't really help to diffuse the situation , but we had many thousands there, which would probably reinforce the suggestion that it was a larger cup tie away following.

Another really bad time at Leeds was after a league game in 1975, when Willie Donachie equalised right at the end ..... the cops let everyone out at the same time and all hell broke loose as we attempted to get back to the station three miles away surrounded by thousands of their mob, with hardly any police in sight.!

Trouble is he's probably ruined that little lads love for going to the games now ... he just won't feel safe.

Was a weird atmosphere at Wembley that day. The Villa fans were kicking off with everyone. Me and my lad got a load of shit on the tube back to Euston from some dickheads for no reason.
The Wembley Stadium station (trains direct back to Birmingham) was full of tossers from both sides goading each other, including kids goading adults with (pissed) parental consent (encouragement).

Sadly I'm not in the slightest bit surprised by this story. It's my route in and out of Wembley, and the only worse I've seen was united for the semi.
