There's a better crowd shot of that day in Gary James's latest book. It's a real close up.

The photo's in "The Big Book Of City" page 164-165 and this facebook page shows it:

I'm right in the middle of that!

Which one's you? It'll be good to identify a few of the faces. Also, the original image at the start of this thread was published in my book "Manchester: The Greatest City" (second edition, published in 2002). It appears on page 338 along with Power taking the free kick and the players celebrating.

The photo covers a bigger section of the stand and also shows the goals, and more City fans (though it's a much smaller image). There's a City banner that appears to say OK with the O being a version of the round City badge.

Ahh...memories.

I was also in The Holte End that day with 15 or so mates.
we had hired a Salford Van Hire transit van with no seats in the back
and a plastic bucket for the boys to have ' a leg'

Seem to remember Gerry Gow clattering Arnold Muhren, i think( or maybe Frans Thiesson) early and setting the game up for us.

Don't fret you younger blues...there are lots more of these days on the horizon.
Bring em on.

yep. what a day. been far too long since days like that. we were in the opposite end to the holte and seemed to be right behind paul when he took the free kick. we were all jumping before it went in. there was no way the keeper was getting it. can't be much longer before we have times like that again.

I was 11 years old and in the seats with my Dad. The journey down was amazing as the motorway was jammed with cars flying City colours.

After our goal, there was a chorus of "You'll never walk alone" and the whole City side of the Holote End seemed to turn solid blue with scarves. I was blown away. This photo may well actually be that moment.

Interestingly, at 11, I thought it would always be like that. I had no inclination that 30 years later it still hasn't got any better.

did we used to sing you'll never walk alone? O_O

Yes we did. Lots of clubs did.

The second verse was speeded up with clapping.

I remember "Match" magazine doing their cup final special and in it, they had a picture of the free kick, mid flight, taken from the far end of the ground and I was able to see myself in it (bloody gruesome!). T o my eternal regret, I lost that bloody magazine. Then again, it may be just as well; my hair looked like I'd had 20,000 volts passed through me!
