Went Yesterday.

One of the best smash and grabs I've ever seen.

Anyway.

Perhaps it's just coincidence? Or is it?

City 1-0 up Cardiff and cruising. Substitutions. The rest is History.
City 2-1 up at Villa and cruising. Substitutions. The rest is History.

One more thing. Why when there's a free kick dead centre of the goal, don't Managers put 1 player on the goal line alongside the Keeper? It's going to go in either corner. If the attacking team want to swap the 6 yard box, it will only make it harder for the free kick taker to score, due to the amout of players in the way. Just a thought.

Or deflects of someone into the goal
because if you do that you allow opposition players closer to the goal as they are played onside - not good!

Obvious!

I did state as much.

It's a choice. Give the player taking the free kick a clear shot at goal( Yaya(3) Rooney(3), and Bacuna(1) ), or make it difficult for the player, while in the process taking a risk of a goal via a deflection.(with x amount of players standing in the 6 years box)

Obviously the clear shot on goal is still the preferred option for defending teams. ;-)

4-5-1 with Nasri behind Negredo, ala 2nd half against Bayern pre-season.

Looks very fluid, hardly any top sides play 2 up top.

Negredo against Bayern?ur joking.
He didnt score against man u,didnt score against wigan didnt score against vila.
how do u justify him in a starting line up against Bayern?
Dzeko and Jovetic up front (if aguero not fit)

Where did I say Negredo should start against Bayern? This is Villa post match thread and Aguero wasn't available.

Against Bayern, 4-5-1 with Aguero leading the line.

Anyway, I don't see what you lot have got to moan about. Especially those who went.

£40 for a view of a............

Anway, I'm getting bored with discussing yesterday, people can nitpick all they like but I am writing it off as a "shit happens" day. If we have several of them, I'll reappraise that view.

Couldn't we say that 3/3 away games have been "shit happens" days though?

Shit shouldn't have happened. Nastasic made a stupid foul that was in no way necessary and Hart ran right out and then made no attempt to do anything (compare what Lloris does).

Both these goals have come about because our last line of defence has fallen into panic.

Stoke wasn't a shit happens day: it was a below par performance. Cardiff had an element of shit happens about it but not, IMO, to the extent of yesterday; although both were notable for some horrid errors. Most of the performance yesterday was much more satisfactory than Cardiff. I also think that if the officials had not got it wrong on their first goal, we would have gone on and won the game.

Mistakes by players and officials are inevitable and we won't always get as heavily punished for them as we did yesterday.

Okay, 24 hours later and I'm still feeling depressed about yesterday's result. I was not a huge fan of Mancini but on the few occasions where we would take the lead away from home we generally held on to win and we did so by firming up at the back and in midfield and generally taking fewer chances. This team and new style seem unable to do that, losing leads at Cardiff and twice at Villa. There are similarities in both games....we lost the lead at Cardiff and Villa within 5 or so minutes both times, conceded 3 goals in both games in the 2nd half after first halves where we were generally under piss all threat. In both games, the 3 goals conceded came within an approx 20/25 minute spell....is fitness an issue here or lack of concentration? Even worse, Cardiff and Villa both knocked in two goals in the space of a few minutes. Top teams shouldn't collapse so readily like we have against fairly mediocre opposition like Cardiff and Villa but there is plenty of time to sort this out.
I wonder if we'd have lost both games and leads in both games had we still had Barry, a guy who can really dig in when needed and break up play. I wasn't a huge fan of his when he was here but away from home he could be a vital cog for us and offered protection to the back 4 that Ya Ya and Fernandinho don't seem to be able to do at the moment. Possibly havering there...
The stat that I read earlier, the one that shows the opposition scoring 6 against us from 10 shots on target away from home can be interpreted several ways, for example, either as a succession of wonder strikes and rank good fortune from opposition players or possibly shows a goalkeeper (and defence) not doing his/their part from the limited time they've been called into action.
I can see us beating Bayern and Everton next week to get things back on track though.

Liverpool, like Arsenal yesterday, currently highlighting the point I made earlier. Get in front, shut up shop, and then finish the game off on the counter. That said, in the absence of Aguero, we have nothing close to rivalling either Sturridge or the Klansman. They go past opponents in tight spaces like they aren't there, and conjure up goals out of nothing - 3 between them again today. If they played for us we'd be top. Ruthless. Those waiting for Liverpool, the Arse or Spurs to implode will wait in vain. It doesn't matter whether we're shit (Cardiff) or unlucky (Villa), if we don't come up with a pragmatic way to win away from home, we will left scrapping for 4th with the rags and Chelsea before you know it

When Agüero isn't on the pitch we look a class below, up front.

I don't think Pellegrini wanted his team to give Villa any sort of breather: IMO, he brought Navas on to try and strike a killer blow. After Nasri left, most of the play remained in the Villa half.

We'll just have to disagree.

He didn't. He's mucked up the tactics which allowed them the breather. changed too much too quick.

I take it all these coaching badges and premier league experience you have, brings you to this conclusion about
tactics and I thought they were minty or orange.

I've never managed a team, but I've been playing football and watch it for over 25 years. I think I am entitled to an opinion :)

Totally agree with you. Pelle is still experimenting with his tactics and how they translate on the pitch. He should aim for stable performance, if it working, leave it till the final whistle.
Not sure of the player on goal line though, might block keeper's clearance?
