They seemed to go from a decent team to a poor team in the couple of weeks between our games. Just shows how injuries can affect a team with a smallish squad.

A lesson in how quickly football can turn and bite you in the bum.

No they were shit before the game against us, struggling finacially and punching well above there weight for a long time. Time caught up and Rossi got injured

This is why the champions league should be exactly that, for champions . I didn't agree we should be in it last year or spurs previously, it should be just for the champions.
Villareal can't have been any good but fluked a top 4 place.

Even if you looked at their squad barring the injuries it should never of been relegated really, maybe the size of the squad was the reason! I am quite suprised really.

I watched some of their performances in recent times against Barca etc, they played really well.

My money is on Redknapp going on for Rossi!! Bargain man strikes again!

Good player though!

Come on i hardly think they fluked it, they have been regular qualifiers over the last 5-10 years, they have had their day in the sun and now back to where they realistically should be. They are a very small club and have done amazingly to enjoy their time at the top.

Has a team competing in the Champs league ever gone on to be relegated in the same season?

Celta de Vigo 2003-2004.

But I'm sure that Villarreal will return soon to primera, they will keep most of the players and add some players of "B" team(a mid table team in second diivision this season, dont' forget that Villareal has one of the best academys in Spain).

It seem that some players like Borja Valero, Zapata o Nilmar will be sold and their budget for the next season would be around 30€ millions.

The fans supports strongly the board. Villarreal president left the stadium one hour after the match finished and the fans were waiting to give him a big applause and an ovation.
