Villareal relegated

This is why the champions league should be exactly that, for champions . I didn't agree we should be in it last year or spurs previously, it should be just for the champions.
Villareal can't have been any good but fluked a top 4 place.

Disagree with this. If it was only the Champions then only one of four (or possibly five if you include the champions of France) could win it each season - and I'm being somewhat generous to the Serie A champions in saying that.

That would be a very predictable format and would stagnate very quickly. The current format (as much as is possible) put the best 32 teams together as the better leagues get a representative number of clubs. People forget how much shit used to play in the European Cup. Just look at who Forest beat in 1980 to get to the semi-finals that season:

Oster
Arges Pitesti
Dynamo Berlin

And then compare it to our group:

Bayern Munich
Napoli
Villareal

In the second division there are a few reserve/youth teams or whatever from some of the big clubs...."Villarreal II" is one of them...how will that work exactly? Surely they can't play against each other...

Villarreal B were automatically relegated to Segunda División B the moment the main Villarreal team went down to Liga Adelante.

So hang on, this is where it gets confusing, does another team get promoted from segunda B then?

I think whatever team is 19th in the Liga Adelante just stays up when they'd usually get relegated.

-- Sat May 19, 2012 7:07 pm --

It doesn't seem right to let the A team play the B team in the Copa.

This edition of the Copa del Rey was rather strange because both Real Madrid and its second team, Castilla, reached the final. This was unprecedented in Spanish football and has never happened since.

That game ended 6-1, not too suprising but the Castilla team managed to beat four top teams from the Primera División.

Even if you looked at their squad barring the injuries it should never of been relegated really, maybe the size of the squad was the reason! I am quite suprised really.

I watched some of their performances in recent times against Barca etc, they played really well.

My money is on Redknapp going on for Rossi!! Bargain man strikes again!

Good player though!

Average at best, he could probably get Henandez for a couple of mil season after next and he's another over rated pile of shite.

I must admit I think really we belong in the CL now we are champions.

Shocking, shows that Spanish football really only has two sides, brilliant and shite.
