Vincent Kompany injuries

The main thing is the back four are finally stepping up without him. The reason I’ve been so adamant we need him involved is due to the fact we have often looked at sixes and sevens when he’s missing.
We carry on as we have been then it’ll be a lot easier for me to agree with the notion his time here is coming to an end.
Still early days yet as far as this season goes but so far so good.

The wages are irrelevant mate. Vinny is entitled to play for Belgium whenever he can. That said, some of Vinny's injuries have been due to him over playing for Belgium and us when coming back from injury e.g. Getting injured in injury team at Swansea when he could have been subbed. Managers and medical teams for Club and Country could
Probably have been stronger in advising Vinny.

I reckon there's more to this than meets the eye. Vinny has been on a strict regime at City and has managed to stay injury free since March up to the end of August. Can imagine Pep being really pissed off about what happened as he needs to be managed and looked after to prevent recurrence and perhaps this didn't happen when he went on international duty. There's chronic muscular problems here in terms of when he suffers a problem the recovery period takes weeks if not months. This was supposed to be innocuous at first and we're 7 weeks into this latest injury.

We're finally looking OK without him now though and that's massive for us. Be interesting to see if Tosin and Mangala get a run out on Tuesday though. Expect to see some changes for this one.

Good post. I got the chance to meet Vinny at the Academy about 18 months ago. The presentation was delayed for an hour or two because Vinny was receiving intensive physiotherapy. Pep will be very conscious if Vinny has been misused for Belgium like you say.

Pep took a gamble on Vinny's fitness against Chelsea last season and he then had a run of good games. I wonder if Vinny could play if we really needed him.!

Mangala will play against Wolves. He can still
Do a good job when called upon this season. I think Tosin might be on the bench and his first start is likely to be against Donetsk in Kharkiv if we have won the group by then (touch wood).

Agreed, we have generally looked much more secure at the back in his absence this time but things are going absolutely swimmingly at the moment in every respect. We are bound to have a spell when the chips are down so to speak and that's when the defence will have to really prove that they are able to cope. The Napoli match was interesting because when things started going wrong there was part of me that thought the defence coped well, some great last ditch blocks and interceptions from both Stones and Otamendi. But I also thought mistakes were starting to creep in, particularly in terms of the decisions they were making - when to play and when to clear the ball and some of the passing out from the back fell apart. But ultimately they didn't buckle whereas I suspect last season we would have drawn or at a push maybe even conceded a third with Stones and Otamendi back there.

This isn't a criticism by the way, we can only judge them on what we see and so far they have been refreshingly more resolute just there are bound to be tougher times ahead and that's when we will know for sure. All of that said, IMO we need another centre back in January because even if Stones and Otamendi are now a partnership we can rely on, we are currently an injury to one of them away from problems. We should have gone into the season assuming Kompany was going to get injured again and that, combined with being a further man down with Kolarov going means it's obvious to me that we need a CB. And that's before we even factor in that Pep clearly doesn't trust Mangala in the slightest.

True but I think we still need to replace him. We need someone strong and experienced next to Stones and then we will have a formidable defence. Otamendi is still prone to rashness and his positional sense suspect although he's vastly improved on that this season.

A month ago I would have totally agreed with you on Otamendi but for the last month both him and stones especially have been brilliant. Have personally given up on Kompany though so do think we need a CB in Jan as I'd hate to rely on mangala as can't see him taking the ball of Ederson and playing through the lines.

If I am being honest I think that Vinny's time is up and he will be moving on at the end of the season. It's quite clear that the defence has moved on without him and the club is looking to replace him. Sadly the injuries has caught up with him and he is coming towards the arse end of his career. Maybe he could spend some time out in the MLS with Yaya and come back to us in some sort of capacity. You have to give it to the club that we have tried everything with Vinny but there are some things that you just can't sort out.

I don't think it's over yet for Vinny. He started the season well and I think we're just building him back up again. It could still be a very big season for him and us.

It would have been so good to have him available at the moment but if we can get him right then it will be even more important for him to be there when there are fingers crossed games like league cup semis and CL last 16 games coming thick and fast.

Kompany should have shown the club the same respect as Delph and pulled out of international duty. Having spent the majority of last season as a sick note.

Why he needed to play 90 fucking minutes against Gibraltar is beyond me.
