Vincent Kompany injuries

Kompany had been out for a long spell and hadn't played a single minute for us but was called up to the belgium squad.
This, absolutely typical of posters talking from their gut instead of their head. Vinny played in the 3 games for us leading up to the international break. Posters like you are as bad as the media who continue to write daft stuff instead of looking at facts.
Vinny nice guy and true blue that he is is a crocked player. Posters are treating this international business as though he were some man of iron god who was unfortunate to pick up an injury. get real he will be a bit part player for us until his contract expires. Stop focussing on him as the player to drag our defense to a title.

I'm talking about the international break 2 seasons ago that's the root cause of all his break downs since so give your head a wobble

We haven't won one in three seasons and nobody knows whether we would have had he played in every one of those 114 games.

Those that hang on his coat tails are living in the past and the distant past.

He deserves to run out his current contract but Pep has told him that he only wants him to set foot on the park when he is at right as he can be and does all the the necessary leg work to ensure he is ok to go as opposed to what he thought he could get away with in the past.

The comment he hadn't trained one minute in the past month in the main drills when he had from Pep may have been more than a Freudian slip.

Any game time we get from VK from now on as has been the case IMO for sometime now when he is on song is a bonus.

We need a CD of quality end of whether VK plays or not along with another quality fullback a defensive midfielder of high quality and another forward.

I am sure we tried in the off season but we couldn't get the ones targeted so we try again at next opportunity.

He reminds me entirely of King of Spurs once his legs gave up.

Because he doesn't strike me as the kind of man to blackmail a player who loves his country to stop playing for them or else.
In fact you'd have to be a bit of a **** to even entertain those thoughts.

Of course he wants to play in his last World Cup but his legs might do the talking for him unfortunately.

Would never want a player to retire from internationals.

Even those that are past their prime by some margin?

Personally I wanted Rooney to retire long ago and it has nothing to do with Manure more the fact there were better alternatives for England while he was still living on borrowed time.

It strikes me that Kompany simply needs to play very cautiously - not stretching into tackles/diving in. And with the cooperation of our side and his International side - not featuring in games that aren't hugely important - and in games where his side very likely have won - being substituted.

But... the main onus I think is on Kompany - and perhaps medical staff for giving him instruction. He's obviously very delicate - and needs to play very carefully with that in mind.

IMO, it's unreasonable to expect that Kompany give up his International career, especially in a season where his side has a reasonable expectation of actually competing for the WC (yes, there are several sides more likely to win, but Belgium are contenders if they can get it together).

No just a Manchester City fan,who do you support by the way.

This is what I'm talking about

So Blue Llama give me some facts on minutes played for city before this international injury.

It's posters like you that have short term memories and a lack of information retention that can't see that Belgium have caused massive damage to Kompany. The club were expecting him to be fit two weeks after the international but they still called him up to play.

Oh sorry Berkshire I see what you did there. You were asking about 3 seasons ago. Can I assume that you believe that every Injury Vinny has had since then is all the fault of Belgium and that one international match?

Pretty much as he would have adapted the way he runs over concern that he might injury the same calf which puts extra pressure on other sections of the body. You can read about it in the sports science journals if you want

Both played well on the whole, I thought , but Fern was exceprional.

Strange how that has always been his accepted role at City, yet at Shakhtar, he had a Gareth Barry type character who sat behind him doing that job & Fern was one of the best in Europe, in a different role.

That's for a different thread though.
Yes to be honest I think he is much more than a holder. I remember his performance against Chelsea a few years ago for Shaktar and he was unreal....controlled the game. Yes been less rash this season so far to be honest. I think the team are pressing correctly now as a whole. Just need to stop Otamendi from being so rash now. Easier said than done haha.

Just having more athletes in the team & more people around him in the middle of the pitch helps Fern I think.

Thank fuck this manager can see that.

I thought Otta was the best I've ever seen him today apart from the mental, unfathomable moments.

Its a real team effort at the minute defensively, starting from the front and the press and the midfield working in packs to close the space.

Watching Barca I never thought individually Mascherano was the greatest defender but it was hardly noticeable in that team. Similarly the work of this team, alongside improved individual performances, makes us look much better defensively.

Absolutely but when that fails, which it always will during a game, the cbs have to be on it.

I've never thought Piquet was a great defender either tbh but he's good at tidying. And I'm sure Boateng isn't great but same thing.

That's where we have been basically crap for several years imo & Otamendi/Stones made it worse rather than better, for different reasons.

But this season, Stones has been playing as if he knows he's a cb & will never be Beckenbauer & Otamendi in recent times seems as if he's realised he needs to start using his brain & that enthusiam alone won't work.

He actually 'read' stuff today when others had lapsed, rather than being the last one to know.

Yes I agree with that. Ota, besides the ridiculous foul late on, seemed more focused and stayed on his feet and full credit for the pass he played to De Bruyne for the goal.

I could not imagine our two centre halfs being as durable as say the Chelsea centre backs facing such an onslaught, but collectively we have been excellent at defending from the front today and as you say when required the two CBs played well also.

Yes I agree too. We saw when Morata tried a few tricks v Stones, JS was chasing shadows but he & Walker were able to rescue it.

You can't imagne under 90 mins of that, our cbs would cope like Chelsea's did, but if we had Chelsea's defenders, we would not get out of our own penalty area in possession.

Which it seems England have opted for, as our future of football, with Cahill & Jones.

That is the flip side of the coin and a point many people, including myself, have stuggled with at the outset.

Now we have a more than competent keeper and a team pressing from the front you can see the value given by a keeper who can knock the ball out accurately, play a long ball and is comfortable sniffing out danger on the edge of his box like a sweeper. Similarly the same goes for the CBs and Ota's ball through the lines to KDB perfectly illustrates this. Individually they may not be the best defenders, in the more traditional sense, but arguably the trade off now seems worthwhile having decent footballers back there to assist in the domination of the football.
