His body simply cannot cope with domestic football, never mind throwing in the extra trauma of an international career. He's had injury after injury and If he's not careful he's going to end up playing no football. Like you say he needs to make a decision on where his career is going, which realistically is to retire from international duty.
 
He isn't going to retire from international football until after the world cup at the earliest. If fit he is going to want to go there with Belgium. The thing for us now is he doesn't need to play 3 games a week for us to compete on all fronts. We can pick and choose games and rest Stones and Otamendi. There is no way I would disrupt them 2 at the back currently. They have been immense over the last few months and I've not been Otamendi's biggest fan but it is impossible for both to play every game in the PL and CL until the end of the season. Mangala isn't the answer so we need VK fit, willing and able.
 
As far as I'm concerned Ottamendi deserves to be an automatic pick to partner Stones, Kompany's role should be reduced to providing back up and filling in for injuries/suspensions, since he can't be relied on to stay fit anymore.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is his last season at the club, because I think Guardiola has given him enough chances to be starter, but his injury record is a huge black mark against him in Guardiola's eyes I suspect. We need a reliable back up centre half, if we are serious about maintaining title challenges year in and year out.
 
Don't see how Pep can change this defense for first choice at moment. Sure he might rotate a little but hopefully not the center backs. I expect when he does return he will be limited to the bench for a while until needed.
 
There appears to be confusion over VK's injury , a couple of weeks ago Pep said he was 7-10 days away from being available to play , then today it appears he hasnt started full training yet , reading between the lines maybe VK has broken down again and its back to square one , sincerely hope this isnt the case but it must be destroying him watching the team sweep teams away whilst he fights to get fit. After all the trials and tribulations he has been through over the last couple of seasons if there is a player who deserves to be lifting the Champs league trophy above his head in June , its this man

Or the 10 days bit was just fibs in the first place, for whatever reason.

Love him for what he's done but he hasn't really played since 2014, and did he even play that much then? The captaincy should be given to Silva really now as if we win this league we will have done it without Kompany and he really shouldn't be the one to lift the trophy.
 
he's is world class and wish him all the best and if only we could get him 100% for a season but maybe time is up in this team kompany a good lad and will know better than anybody and should not be pushed out the door the call should be in his court and no pressure to call it a day just yet but long term plans should be in place for coaching and what better place than at man city in the youth setup

Nice post, sensible and sentimental and respectful of a wonderful servant to our club and cause, how quickly some posters forget.

To be honest I've been quite harsh in saying the club should let him go now, but this is mainly because Kompany's injuries are getting to the point where it could hold the team's performance back by taking up a place in the team from someone who could fill the position more reliably and relieve the stress and inevitable tiredness Otamendi and Stones will suffer at some point during this season.

Unfortunately Kompany can no longer be relied upon, so sentiments have to be put aside for this and coming seasons.

I feel the sentimental part was for last season where Kompany was given the benefit of the doubt to prove he could become fit again, the injury this season has put major doubts on his reliability now (at least for me).
 
Guardiola hopes he will start training next week

To weeks training and he'll be ready
