Vinny is a very intelligent man and a thinker.
Instead of a coaching role when the time comes, maybe give him a job as assistant director of football.
Txiki isn't the youngest and will need replacing at some point. Get him to train Vinny up now and introduce him to all of his contacts so he can take over when txiki retires
He's just got a masters degree on some sort of business course (didn't catch what exactly), but he was interviewed on BBC breakfast this morning about it (longer interview to come on BBC at some point).

I watched the mini interview and was thinking of the post from someone about him being groomed for the DOF post in a few years.

I saw that piece myself.

Its great to see a player, with their considerable down time, commit himself to something other than gambling, playing golf or spontaneously, and excessively, inking themselves.Vinny most definitely has a very bright future when the playing boots are finally hung.

I agree, I wonder if he'll stay in football ? He would be a loss if not, but at least he won't end up as a failed manager, doing punditry.

For now I just wish he could get fit, and resume his playing career without worry.

I share that wish but i fear otherwise :-(

A player/coach role may be an ideal compromise.Whatever....we cant lose his character/experience.

Love the fact that he did a dissertation that was football related. Sometimes not easy. I did an Economics degree and my dissertation was on "The effect of price changes on football attendances" - easily best bit of my degree. (For info - very inelastic - i.e. Hardly any impact - double the price and it has a small reduction on demand hence prices keep going up because clubs know people will still go)

Well done Vincent Kompany. Hard work, determination and intelligence has brought him his MBA. Not easy when who have a day job and family.

One of the things about the squad these days is that the players are more intelligent than usual. You hear it in the way they talk and you see it in their play in tight games. Intelligence is undervalued in English football, which favours 'characters' but this group contains a lot of smart young guys.

As for Kompany on the pitch, the biggest problem is that he looks half the player he was. Bournemouth's 10 minutes of hope happened because Kompany couldn't get near the pace of the game. Better teams win games in that time. It's a shame to see it but he looks worse than he did at the start of this season. It would be sad to see him turned over by players he'd once have had in his pocket all day.

Graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He could be equally as beneficial to the club in an educational capacity. Working with the lads in the Academy on organising and looking after their own financial futures rather than solely relying on agents and the like.

I’d like to see him use his position as alumnus to strengthen the ties with MBS and city. As you say, they could tailor courses for some of the younger players so they had an avenue to explore post playing career

I agree with you about intelligence. No longer is it a big issue if Vinny goes off injured. The replacement gets on with doing a competent job.

We must be watching a different game when Vinny is playing. He is for me still one of the best central defenders in the league. Injuries will probably mean that this will be Vinny’s last season as a player for us but he’s a very long way from a weak link when he plays.

I have to disagree with this Tim, he misplaces passes when under no pressure and the team has started to look a little nervy around him.

Pep says it not as bad as thought and could be available for next fixtures.

I wouldn't rush him back. Maybe come on as a sub in the cup game against Burnley, then on the bench for the trip to Anfield. Stones and Ota should be our first choice CB pairing from here on in; their form before John's injury merit that.

It could be down to rustiness but that's going to be the norm for him. I don't think any sportsman in any sport could miss so much competitive action and not see his performance suffer.

What I don't get is why does he start breaking down at the start of games? Why is it not in training or in the pre match warm up?
I think it's a mental issue perhaps.
