Violence at Euro 2016

The worlds media is putting the blame at "English football hooliganism"... despite numerous videos of thousands of Russians storming an England end full of families with kids and OAPs. The average English hooligan is simply a shirtless skinny kid singing 10 german bombers, that's as dangerous as he gets.
Who is blaming us for it, specifically?

Pundits and journalists love giving English fans a bashing. Bashing English supporters, who they generally regard as working class, is a sport to middle class journalists and pundits. Wankers.

Internationally (well, the one US television news network that I saw) in the few minutes of news coverage I saw on TV (before flipping to the US v Paraguay Copa America match) the media were blaming the English and pitching it as an "English football hooligans are at it again" kind of thing.

No idea what is actually happening, they could be spot on, but over simplifying a much more complicated issue down to "English football hooligans are at it again" would be my guess.

Side note: In the US Paraguay game, the ref stopped the match so the doctors could spray him with the magic cold spray. Every fan in the stadium booed. Now I've seen it all.

Ha ha, someone been watching Green Street? I know what you mean though.

I think in present day football over here certain fans give it the big en knowing full well the police will keep opposing supporters segregated. So all you really get is handbags with the odd minor scuffle.

Then if you're suddenly faced with a load of big Russians coming for you it's a different scenario altogether.

My first choice wouldn't be to stand my ground and fight I know that for sure. A load of Danny Dyers vs Russian fighters. I know who'd I'd back.
Yes you're right I did see it from Green Street

Bit naive to say there hasn't been a problem for 40 years. I'm 36 and seen plenty of incidents watching city. But never read a word of it in the papers. I think a lot is swept under the carpet. Anyone who was at Stoke away when we both went down will testify to major altercations. Whenever I've been old Trafford (also Wembley when we player them) I've seen fairly meaty events but also a lot of policing as well. I've seen people sparkled on the floor numerous occasions.

If there wasn't a problem there would be no need for the high level of policing. Huge Police escorts occur for all big games still.

Not saying it's as it was in the 70's and 80's but I think it's policed better and reported less for political reasons.

i probably should have said major problems, there isn't large scale fighting or large hooligan gangs fighting each other anymore. maybe somewhere elsewhere in the city. but nothing has happened to compared to things that happened in the 70s and 80s. there has been fighting, but by and large the police have dealt with it and the hooligans are all old men now. i was at the semi final against them and they were horrible but there wasn't any scenes like whats happening in france

The decent England fans are suffering for the reputation of what went before them and will for years. The English aren't exactly liked in Europe, particularly in France,so we will always be a target.

In Paris last summer a lovely Parisian lady told me that the French not liking American tourists was a misnomer, and in actuality its the English they dislike.

Agree but say we got the rags in a major European final in a foreign city (unlikely I know) Could you imagine something similar? Maybe not to the same extent as the dynamics are different. But think back to Rangers in Manchester.

The champions league final is in Cardiff this year. Imagine two English clubs get there and then tell me there wouldn't be trouble.

Take a look at West Ham v Millwall in the cup last year or the year before. Similar scenes occurred albeit on the day of the game only.

i agree there would be violence, but there wouldn't be large groups of what appear ufc trained fighters, using weapons and attacking each other. there are all sorts of things going on, but lets just hope the england fans are alright mate
