My son was caught in the middle of the clashes yesterday outside the queen Victoria pub he said a large group of Russians ambushed the English fans , i can only go off what he told me that the atmosphere was great until the Russians turned up a few had knives & scream masks on he said it was unprovoked needless to say he got off on his toes & dropped his phone but didn't go back for it because he was that scared he said it was bedlam . Today him and his mates went on a day trip out of Marseille they said it was like a war zone last night .

Excellent summary of what appears to have REALLY happened! England fans like to go out, sit in the sun, and have a few drinks. Are there a few nob heads. Always! But, these organized mini-militias in some countries (Russia, Poland, Turkey, Germany) are a different kettle of fish! As usual, UEFA will beat their chests and do nowt worth doing, because they are always afraid of the lawsuits and afraid of offending these FAs...except when it comes to England, because UEFA act like it is still the 70s and 80s!Yep.

As others have said, to organise a match between England and Russia on a Saturday evening in Marseille with the alcohol flowing freely beforehand was a serious error in judgement. Seems some England fans loutish and drunk behaviour but not overly malicious. Some Russians, organised pre-mediated action with serious intent to cause harm. Russia 2018 has the potential to be a war zone and fans need to have a serious think about whether to go to that.

What should happen is each country should be responsible for the well being of there fans as in stopping preventing any trouble before its gets out of hand
