Does'ent have to do much defending playing in a one horse race league.
But his CL performances were impressivetommybooth said:Does'ent have to do much defending playing in a one horse race league.

I copied his CL game reviews on page one of this thread. At Nou camp: "The standout player for the Bhoys as he made some crucial challenges and desperate blocks. Read the runs of the Barcelona front line fairly well."BluessinceHydeRoad said:Plain Speaking said:But his CL performances were impressivetommybooth said:Does'ent have to do much defending playing in a one horse race league.
At the Nou Camp?
I understand that general reluctance but we bought VK from Anderlecht in the Dutch league that's where Virgil van Dijk was until this year. If we want to pick up a gem for a low outlay sometimes its worth taking a punt?BigOscar said:I really would be concerned getting a CB from the SPL. No offence to the league, but the standard is below that of the championship (at least the opposition Celtic have to face certainly are) and the type of defending he has to do in the CL isn't really relevant to how we play. Every year a new collection of Celtic players get a lot of hype and most of them disappear back into obscurity. I can't see how it would be anything other than a complete gamble
We bought VK off Hamburg in the Bundesliga, not off Anderlecht. I do get your point, but I don't see much indication that VVD is some extreme talent who has somehow escaped the top scouts of europe, he was playing in one of the most scouted leagues in the world and noone saw fit to buy him of Groningen. I remember Kayal, Izaguirre, Hooper, Brown, Commons and just about every other new Celtic player getting linked to big PL teams after a few months of beating up on the SPL, but I think it's more just because Celtic have a huge fanbase hyping their decent Championship standard players imo. Obviously I could be wrong and he could be great, but I'd have serious doubts about im.Plain Speaking said:I understand that general reluctance but we bought VK from Anderlecht in the Dutch league that's where Virgil van Dijk was until this year. As I said above he came out of his CL games with credit, in a very tough group.
Vinny cane from Hamburg; although he started at Anderlect. I think with the FFP it is worth a punt on a decent prospect with a reasonable price tag.Plain Speaking said:I understand that general reluctance but we bought VK from Anderlecht in the Dutch league that's where Virgil van Dijk was until this year.
