If I was Southampton I'd be using the money to get in Nasri and Mangala. Nasri would elevate their abilities up front greatly and I bet Mangala would adequately cover the CB gap.

I'd have been trying to get Bertrand for these or other players that we have available anyway due to him being one of the extremely few decent English players around.
Would you now :)

I think he has the ability, unfortunately i dont think he has the mind set. He's still a youngster though.....

I think he's lost it mentally & physically.

He looked unfit at Sunderland imo. Playing a back 3 pre season, the Denayer who came back from Celtic would have been absolutely nailed on for a game. Great on the ball, fast as fuck, brilliant at spotting danger, last ditch rescue tackles, perfect for the job.

I don't think this guy is the same player at all.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. The Denayer of Celtic was at least as good if not superior to the VVD of Celtic. Somewhere in the last couple of years he has seriously regressed. Shame.

I dont want to turn this into a Denayer thread.....but,he's certainly not the player we witnessed emerging from our EDS,or on loan at Celtic. The fitness thing can be easily salvaged but not if the attitude is wrong, which i would guess is the underlying issue.

When comparing his mentality, and current standing,to a player like VVD,Denayer is light years away.

Yes. VVD would do the 'big bloke' stuff, attacking the ball, Denayer would sort it out whenever Van Dijk did something Otamendish. Denayer was the smarter & faster of the two.

Also some of his tackles/clearences under immense pressure almost defied gravity.

The guy at Sunderland was a wheezing lump, who looked like he'd smoked a spliff in the dressing room.
