The agent ? He might blab to the media.
Why would an agent do that in the middle of the deal, unless they are a complete amateur and want a reputation for leaking stuff, as it's not going to take long for the club to figure out who leaked it if it was true. Seems more like the sort of thing someone would do to try and instigate an offer, not what you'd do when you already had one

T

The fact we paid 47.5 M for Stones and 42 m dor Mangala doesn't mean it is ok. Thats why Levy ask 50 m for Walker and every team in the world raise the price for the players city want

If Chelsea went in for walker, spurs would ask for the price that city are paying. Levy is a money grabber, I don't blame him actually. Every other club interested in van dyke have seemingly been given a £50m price tag. So it's not just us.

Doesn't the times article say they are holding out for £60m. Maybe it was the Saints trying to up the ante

Its possible that he is using City against someone else, and that City have actually shown little or no interest.

Someone quoting. £50 mill bid for Lucas Hernandez?

Cadena Cope in France tweet I think. They have a transfer ban don't they. Can only see them selling (inc Griezman) if it's overturned

€50m so £43m. Apparently the transfer ban being lifted on Thursday is a condition.

COPE are supposed to be ultra reliable and I believe Atleticos president said we made a €50m double bid for both Hernandez brothers last summer (Theo the LB has now got to Real Madrid)

He's supposed to be really, really good and no doubt Simeone will have instilled the basics into him well. But €50m for Atleticos FOURTH CHOICE CB. Surely we can negotiate better than that!

It's interesting that @BillyShears talked about having 2 players for each position lined up and today pretty reliable journalists break stories we're after VVD and Hernandez.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but press goes big on Pickford+Ederson - we sign Ederson. Press goes big on Mendy and Sandro - we get Mendy (almost). Does seem to be a repeating pattern that media coverage narrows to 2 just before we seem to get most of the deal done.

Bernardo proves that all wrong though I suppose as no one had a clue about him.

Why are we always so quick to believee stories in the papers yet dismiss ones from the same papers if it's not what we want to hear?

Seems like one the few better option in the CB market. With our pricing we paid for mangala and stones, can't really argue

the right replacement for vinny. at the right age, right physical, plenty of experience, can speak english.

Sometimes, and I know this is radical thinking, you can have reliable sources and shit sources writing for the same paper?

Example - The Mirror is most of the time absolute garbage, but Simon Mullock is very good and much more trustworthy.

He isn't Vinny's replacement, unless we play him as a right-sided CB and bin John Stones (who is actually Vinny's long term replacement)? He'd replace Nico.

I don't believe for a moment that Van Dijk rumours have any serious ground, we aren't going to buy a severely injured player for 50m, it's absurd. Until he starts to play competitive football regularly, no club would want to touch him for that kind of money.

He's pretty much over his injury now anyway. We did sign Gundogan while he was still injured last year with a more serious injury, so I doubt it would put us off if we really wanted him.

We signed Gundogan for a discount price, not for 50m.

That was due to his contract being nearly up if I remember correctly. VVD doesn't seem to be that injury prone and if he's made a full recovery from his injury, it shouldn't put us off. 50m seems to be the figure bandied about for all of our targets (except Mbappe) but sounds about right when you think what we have paid for Stones, Mangala etc
