If the £25m clause is true it's a no brainer. IMO Denayer was the better of the two at Celtic, but then again, there was a time when Rooney was better than Ronaldo for the rags, one went on to fulfil potential and the other went bald.

We only have 1 CB for the future under Pep as far as I'm concerned, and it's Stones. Going forward we need to find at least 2 more who are front line and a 4th who would be a youth prospect.

I'm not sure that VVD will be one of the best defenders in the world like some think, but I do think he's good enough to be one of the 3 main defenders.
When did Ronaldo go bald?

Can't have you pants pulled down with a release clause.
The clause will trigger a start in the negotiation only? By the time a parasitic agent, the players hype/rep, and the fact that we need badly to buy are taken into account then I expect us to not only have our pants pulled down, but to also be financially dry bummed tbh.

Nah. It's a buy out clause.

But if anyone can fuck that up, it's us.

Player will still have to really want the move for it to happen in Jan and the agentvwill only push him that way if it's a big price . Agent would probably rather play a few clubs off against each other for six months and get more dosh in the summer. We need a cb more than soton need the money - sellers market, pants will be pulled, bumming will be dry.

Considering Denayer looks to have no future here, could,by a bizarre twist of fate,he be used as a possible makeweight? Southampton would be great a move IMO.

You really seem to not get what a buyout clause is. If he has a buyout clause we won't pay more than £25m, that's literally the function of the clause, it means a club has to accept that much money for the player.

The player-City negotiations are completely separate and our usually pay structure would probably be more than enough to convince him to choose us over any other clubs, not to mention the Pep effect and near-guaranteed CL football.

And we all know what would happen then - VVD would turn to shit and Denayer would become the best defender in the country. I'm not giving up hope on Denayer, he's still got 3 1/2 years left on his contract and he's only 21.

I think we'd all predict that script.....

Denayer is a talent,i think that is beginning to re-emerge now he's getting minutes at Sunderland.
Hopefully i am wrong,as i've championed him since his move here, but gut feeling has always made me think he would never have an opportunity or future with us.

I think a 'part ex' for VvD is the best scenario all round.

Happy to be wrong if that's the case.

If I'm honest I actually haven't seen Van Dijk play a lot this season other than against us. Has he really been that good? Everyone seems to be discussing wether or not we can get him but not wether or not we should get him. All I know is when I was watching denayer play alongside him at Celtic I thought denayer was by a distance the better player

This has all the hallmarks of the Bony transfer if it happens

January transfers very rarely work out well, looking good for Southampton (or Swansea) is a lot different to being under the microscope at one of the top clubs in the country

We should wait until the summer and pick up the world class centre back that we so badly need

Until then Pep needs to pick a settled back four / three and get them drilled on the system he has implemented

And what Hallmarks are those?

I can't see any way in which the VVD transfer is similar to Bony except by virtue of both being January signings.

Got to be on the wind up

Get him in 01/01/17 for £25m plus personal terms it's a no-brainer.

Surely with Pep etc we can 'win' the battle against the dippers etc of this world and nail him down.

Then in the summer pick up the Italian guy, 4 centre halfs those 2, Kompany if he can get fit and Stones should be a winning defensive spine.

He is too similar to Stones, we need someone more experienced and physically stronger than him. Would rather we went all out for Bonucci.
