I for one am glad we didn't pay that figure or anywhere near it.Look we we wouldn’t pay 75m end off. Take that how ever you want.
Quality cb no doubt and would have been a great addition to our squad, athletic strong can play out well what’s not to like, oh yeah £75m, could get two equally well equipped cbs for that price

If they wasn't already on the list (imo they was) you can now add Liverpool to the list of teams who have zero right to moan about money spent by us or any other team, they've yet again just inflated the market and him along with the similarly priced Keita means there's no more excuses for Klopp either, if he wins nothing significant next season he surely has to go. It should be noted too that our record fee is still a comparatively puny £54 million for KDB. United,Chelsea and Liverpool all top that comfortably.

He's not a great player. He has well-known deficiencies and Klopp isn't going to coach those out of him unlike Pep with Otamendi and Stones. Central defence at Anfield is a black-hole and he's been sucked into it.Great player and would have loved him here, some starting to sound a little bitter.
We have to understand that some players won't buy into Pep Or perhaps will want to go to a club that they've supported all their life.

VvD is our best centre back for sure, how he compares to others in the league I guess time will tell. Please don't underestimate Klopp's coaching ability, his record may not be as good as Guardiola's, Mourinho's or even Wenger's but he has previously had decent success with limited resources. Now that FSG appear to be backing him, the quality of our squad will keep improving I hope. We will be happy this season to get back in the CL and if we do that its money well spent. You guys have the league this season already so I guess you are aspiring to win Big Ears as your next step forward?He's not a great player. I think if Klopp gets the next 2 windows right, Liverpool could be the biggest competition for the league. I have heard rumours of a couple of other signings too which I won't mention here but if they come off then I will be well happy. He doesn't officially sign until January 2nd 2018. I'd imagine the contracts are tighter than a duck's arse, but nothing is officially official until then, so as it stands, he remains a Southampton player.Why this thread is still open ?

Still gutted we didn't get him, but Pep has more than proven over the years he knows best. If he didn't think VVD wasn't worth £75m, I'm not gonna argue with him.
I think most of our wanting VVD is because he looks like Kompany without the pear head. This is much the same reason we wanted Pogba. There's no doubt he has talent, but the fact he looks like Yaya in stature, is why I reckon he was considered the best replacement.
We didn't get Pogba, & Yaya's replacement was already here & looks fuck all like him, so I suppose there's no real need for us to get a Kompany clone either.
