Virgin Broadband

Customer Services are shit and if you're getting the TV you have to get the v6 box as the other one is useless and i can't believe they're still being allowed to sell it. But the internet is great, so worth it just for that IMO.

We have the top bundle 250 meg download and a pretty niffty upload which is just as important for me, the TV is a bit clumpty front end wise compared to Sky but nothing to lose hair over. Had for 3 years now and had one 2 day period which was intermittent but otherwise its been very good. Getting BT thrown in the sport package saved me a good deal of cash.

The sky sports app for VM customers only lasting for 20 minutes before needing to reconnect drives me up the wall. Other than that, all good.

Morning. Moving soon and the new place has the virgin cables. It seems to be the fastest around and with a tv deal isn’t too bad price wise. Don’t need sport as there’s a pub over the road for that. Does anyone have virgin and would you recommend it and is there an introduce a friend whereby you’ll get a reward for introducing me? If so I’m happy to help you out on that.

Hi mate, I work for virgin as an engineer so can get you joined up with mates rates so your price will never increase. If you are interested send me a pm.

Moving to Virgin from Sky this Friday. No big issues with Sky but there is not fibre optic option via Openreach in our area, so its Virgin or putting up with continually reducing speeds from Sky, TalkTalk, BT, whever you choose.

Biggest concern is the TV programme quality, have heard Sky is much better with box set, on demand offering etc. Oh, and the fact that Vigrin have already written to me informing me of a price increase as soon as my contract ends, a whole month before I even start my service with them. Don't want to get involved in price wars and constant swapping really.

Does anyone know if I can still use my old sky box for anything at all once I leave Sky? Access recordings, or does it just basically become a hefty freeview box with the abo;oty to record a few things, or not even that?

Recording facility goes, as does watching anything you've already got recorded.

Ah, thanks. Was hoping to stick the Sky box in the back room with a few pre recorded things on it, was hoping that as Sky keep inisting wjen trying to flog me insurance for it, the Sky box is my property, i'd keep what was recorded on there. Never mind, cheers for the info.

You can opt to continue paying Sky about a tenner a month to allow recording, but it's not really worth it as you'll only have effectively Freeview channels. You could use the sat dish and cabling for a Freesat+ box, but these cost £100-£200, and the one I had died after 2yrs. With all the on demand stuff over wifi now, it's not worth the outlay for a second recording box anymore.

What I did was buy a high speed 64gb microSD card for about £30 which allows me to pause/rewind on the spare room Freeview telly which can record to a usb slot.

Good idea, cheers. I find it a bit odd though. It's like if I changed my mobile contract to another provider, then they decided to block all downloads on my phone I did under them using their service.

Not a big issue though. As you say, on demand is great nowadays, as long as they don't remove the series when you're halfway through it!

Have to clean the cesspit which is the space behind the telly later today too. Dread to think what I'll find, possible mahrez's penalty.

@meldrew my contract with VM is up on 30/01/19 so would I still need to put the 30 days notice period in to cancel on 01/12/18

well we're up and running with virgin, sort off.

Am only getting 40mbps, whilst I understand the 200mbps I'm supposed to be getting is a max speed surely 40 is not right?

Also having an issue with the laptop, regardless or wired or wireless connection to the new network it says limited and doesn't actually work. Mobiles are fine with the Wi-Fi though.

BTW have a referral code for £50 off for recommemd a friend if anyone can use in this thread.

Bit of advice...my £10 loyalty discount has just finished for internet only putting it upto 36 a month..on the initial phone call do I ask to be put threw to cancellations and hope for the retentions call within the month or try my arm and say sky have offered me a lower speed which I'm not bothered about but for 25 a month...any advice would be much appreciated
