I'm excited by the fact that none of us have a clue not only who will be in the starting XI but how we'll set-up.

It should be possible to rule out some options after the Arsenal game. If certain players eg Nasri and Mangala do not feature then they're not going to be playing against Sunderland. If we don't play 3 at the back for at least 60 mins, we will not play it against Sunderland. If Yaya or Fernandhino do not play as CB's they will not play as CBs against Sunderland.

Deadly serious he's a certain starter, probably the player that his impressed Pep most so far
But if last season is anything to go by he will probably get injured on Sunday and miss the first six weeks of the season

Nobody seems to have included Nasri in there options. I think he still has a lot to offer. Skillful, great ball retention, goals, creativity......
Of all our players this guy annoys me the most. He is a classic text book example of talent which is wasted because of a lack of hard work and application. I hope I am proved very wrong but I just don't see him getting a regular start for City under Pep and I would not be one bit surprised to see him on his bike before the end of the month.

I'm not sure people's views on this: how about Yaya as a CB this season? I think he has played there before, whilst at Barcelona.
He CAN play there but he wasn't all that good at it, and will be even less so now because his mobility has decreased. However he does have the strength, body type and football mind for it. Think Fernando, Delph, Fernandinho, Kolarov, Angelino, Maffeo, Sagna, Clichy, Zabaleta and Caballero, as well as all of our first team, EDS and U18 centre-backs, would all have to be out injured or ill before Pep turns to Yaya Touré to fill in there.

That said, pretty sure if Kompany was the other CB in the pairing he's make Yaya look like Boateng.

Hart
Sagna Otamendi Clichy Angelino

Navas Nolito

Hart because he's our best keeper and I don't think we'll buy another one.
Sagna because I think he's got the brains to slot into Pep's system easily after his holiday.
Otamendi because he'll be our best and most senior CB with Kompany out.
Clichy because he's shown he can play here, good with the ball and don't think Tosin will start straight away, while Denayer hasn't played much in pre-season.
Angelino because the alternative is Kolarov, who has a long way to go to prove he deserves a place in this team again.
Fernando to sit in front of and protect the back four, a job he's very good at.
De Bruyne and Fernandinho to provide energy in attacking midfield while helping the defence.
Navas because he's quick and tricky enough to keep Van Aanholt, an attacking threat, pinned back.
Nolito because he provides something different to Navas- a more technical and direct winger.
Aguero because he's the best striker in the history of the premier league and nobody can convince me otherwise.

Bench of Caballero, Denayer, Delph, Silva, Sterling, Sané, Iheanacho.

I see Sterling as being a little bit like Kingsley Coman- quick and can play on either wing. Think Pep will be careful about overusing him for the first season.

Perhaps I have missed something. Why has Sane been omitted from everyone's line-ups?
He'll probably be used from the bench until he's fully fit, the line-up against Arsenal on sunday will give us a clearer indication on the starting lineup for Sunderland

Some absolutely bizarre lineups and formations on here. Pep likes to be innovative but if you think he's going to go with something as mental as some of these suggestions in his first game in charge i suspect many will be in for a shock. He's going to have all eyes on him for the Sunderland game, i'd put money on him playing a fairly bog standard 4-5-1/4-3-3 variant, it's the movement that's going to be the biggest thing to look forward to.

Hart
Sagna
Otamendi
Stones(Kolarov if he's not signed)
Clichy
Fernandinho
Fernando
Delph
Silva
Sterling
Aguero

The most exciting thing is the bench would look something like
Caballero
Zabaleta
Mangala
Yaya
KDB
Sane
Kelechi

and that's still without Gundogan, Noltio, Bony Kompany, Nasri etc.
