Was anything better in days gone by?

Music is never any better or worse through any era. It’s just what the record companies push to the masses that changes.

These days good music is anything from alternative to completely underground.

You can discover bands you’ve never heard of that have 4000 views on YouTube, never in the charts, never on the radio, never on tele, but be blown away at how good they are.

There’s only one good radio station (BBC Radio 6 Music) in the country and even then they don’t pick up on a sea of decent bands that are out there. There are no decent music tv channels. There’s no John Peel or Tony Wilson around championing the alternative/underground anymore so it remains underground.
Ok. Point me at the present equivalent of Mozart, Beethoven, Vaughn Williams, Elvis, the Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, carol King and Prince.
Thanks.

Compared to 40 years ago, look at any High Street today - where the shops resemble Fort Knox, or have been abandoned, and homeless people proliferate and openly beg without any sense of shame - and you’ll have your answer. Society is (imo) definitely ruder, harsher and less forgiving than a generation ago - and I simply refuse to accept most of the figures that suggest violence and crime is down - my eyes tell me otherwise.

Many, possibly most things are better, certainly in terms of choice and individual lifestyle, but we’ve definitely lost something along the way - and who knows where it will end up. Not very well, I expect.
