Was it a penalty?

No come on now.He did it inside the box aswell.Even if it was only outside the box,it's still a professional foul.It was stupid, and no need for it.

First offence was committed outside the box. In fact he never let go of his shirt. It's okay playing advantage to see if Saha gets away, but if he doesn't then you have to take it back to where the offence for which you played advantage was committed.

Maybe if it was two separate fouls, but it clearly wasn't.

Not sure on the red because I was too disgusted with the award of the penalty to think to look if he was last man. If he was then it was red and a free kick. No way it was red and a penalty.

No way. Strictly the first shirt tugging offence, was outside the box. Should have been a free kick from there.
Looks like we got caught up in a Referee’s statement of intent. Concerning shirt pulling in or near the box. Wolves were another victim today. And it looks like penalties galore in the next few weeks for tugging around the box.. Be careful Tuesday guys.

First it was VERY harsh, hardly any decisions get done for shirt pulling then also it was outside the area the start of the incident. Was he just waiting for Saha to get into the box to give it?
I see your point, to me it was a penalty, but 9 times out of 10 that would NOT have been given, just watch the shirt pulling in the penalty area at corners and free kicks in every match.

lets get some perspective here.

he was holding onto his shirt, yes, i agree, and if that is a pen then we should have 5/6 pens every game.

he did not pull hard enough to make any difference to what saha was doing, and i doubt that even saha felt it. he never went down or even looked for a pen.

he was as shocked as everyone when a pen was awarded.

the fact is he was just holding on, not tugging saha away from the ball.

i expect consistency now, and to see a shed full of pens every game.

the prob was before that anyway when bloody garrido had no idea what to to with the ball when pleyed to him before that, but thats a different story.

No penalty, and all 50/50 to go against MCFC, refs have been told MCFC not to win Prem at all costs.

If Richards had hold of is shirt on the half way line does the ref wait until its on the pen box before giving the foul.bollox no way is it a pen.

It was a penalty, but after that given today by the referee i expect to see the number of free-kicks triple and at least 25-30 penalties awarded over next weekends premiership fixtures and for the rest of the season.

he pulled his shirt in the box, it's like hitting someone up the arse in your car cause they've stopped dead unannounced.....guess what ...it's still your fault. The linesman flagged for the first-pull.. whilst the ref was stood directly behind watching the first and second offence and decided it was a penalty. Commiting the shirt pull caper in the box with only you and your opponent in it.. is very different to the shenanighans that go on at corner kicks, infact there a million miles away in numbers ,sight and confusion. The more worrying thing for Mancini.. was very obviously Richards was spacially unaware of where he was on the park....something he was blatantly guilty of at fullback. He's alright at declaring he's the best in this position (without being asked) or going on 70yd unchallenged runs. Like i said on Thursday...Rooney & Berbatoff are due Tuesday night....

About time refs stamped down on this... it's a shit trick that's been going on too long and I would red card any fucker who persists in doing it... just pissed off they decided to start with us. Beat your man fairly or not at all. It's nearly as annoying as diving.

if he wasnt wearing those silly black gloves with a short sleeve top;it would have not been as noticable.-easy to spot ;with the white away shirt.
