Was it a penalty?

Tecnically should've been a free kick outside the box, as that's where the initial foul took place, but it doesn't really matter. We were well beat today, so no point in blaming the ref for it. Was a pretty stupid thing for Richards to do though, completely unnecessary.

About time refs stamped down on this... it's a shit trick that's been going on too long and I would red card any fucker who persists in doing it... just pissed off they decided to start with us. Beat your man fairly or not at all. It's nearly as annoying as diving.

I agree, if they stamped down on this for 3 weeks it would stop very quickly (in or out of the box).

If a player feels that he needs to do it, its because he's lost the advantage, in other words cheating.

he pulled his shirt in the box, it's like hitting someone up the arse in your car cause they've stopped dead unannounced.....guess what ...it's still your fault. The linesman flagged for the first-pull.. whilst the ref was stood directly behind watching the first and second offence and decided it was a penalty. Commiting the shirt pull caper in the box with only you and your opponent in it.. is very different to the shenanighans that go on at corner kicks, infact there a million miles away in numbers ,sight and confusion.The more worrying thing for Mancini.. was very obviously Richards was spacially unaware of where he was on the park....something he was blatantly guilty of at fullback. He's alright at declaring he's the best in this position (without being asked) or going on 70yd unchallenged runs. Like i said on Thursday...Rooney & Berbatoff are due Tuesday night....
Well im sorry if i mist what you said on Thursday
But looney and Berbaflop are due what on Tuesday?

For what its worth, it was the correct decision, the pulling started outside the box but ended inside, so a penalty is given.

The official ruling is this;

If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues
holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.

You can find it on page 15 of the refereeing laws;

Yes, it was given, end of.

By the way for those that don't know the rules, a shirt pull is a foul, a foul in the box is a penalty, so why debate it at all, its just stupidity imho.

That said there should be consistency, so I hope every lino/ref gives every shirt pull in (or out of) the box from now on, games will be finishing 12-10 for a couple of weeks, at least until the players get the message not to pull shirts (or shorts). I won't be holding my breath on that though, because if there's one blinding consistency in refereeing in the Premier League, its the inconsistency between them all, and from game to game by individuals.

Indeed but a foul is given at the point of contact, it started outside the box and should not have been a penalty. It was given and we have to live with that. I would have taken it if it was for us but I would still have known it never should have been given. We were poor and did not deserve anything from the game but, IMO, the ref was worse than we were.

And for all those saying it was a pen learn the rules of the game.

i'm not exactly sure about this. but can the referee not choose to play on whilst the shirt is being pulled outside the box as there is an advantage to be had for everton, but give a penalty when it is still being pulled inside the box?

either way he clearly had the option of giving at least a foul

what if he starts holding him 15 yards out, does he not blow? i think he would.

No never in a million years.

It was a foul commited way outside the area. If they play an advantage and then blow, play should be brought back to the original point where a foul was committed. It wasn't anymore of a foul when they reached the area, so i fail to see how it's not a foul until they get into the area.
It was very telling that the linesman gave it, when you consider he has the Everton fans screaming in his ear.
