Was it a penalty?

He pulled the shirt out like a flag, and got dragged halfway through our box. From the moment i saw the shirt beeing pulled out, i knew it was allways going to get them a penalty. Stupid play by Richards. Not to mention Robinho's idiotic arguing. Really shows how frustrated he is playing for us.

Penalty all day long..

pathetic schoolboy play by Richards.

If you don't think it was, I'd give your blue specs a polish!

he pulled his shirt in the box, it's like hitting someone up the arse in your car cause they've stopped dead unannounced.....guess what ...it's still your fault. The linesman flagged for the first-pull.. whilst the ref was stood directly behind watching the first and second offence and decided it was a penalty. Commiting the shirt pull caper in the box with only you and your opponent in it.. is very different to the shenanighans that go on at corner kicks, infact there a million miles away in numbers ,sight and confusion.The more worrying thing for Mancini.. was very obviously Richards was spacially unaware of where he was on the park....something he was blatantly guilty of at fullback. He's alright at declaring he's the best in this position (without being asked) or going on 70yd unchallenged runs. Like i said on Thursday...Rooney & Berbatoff are due Tuesday night....

thats definately not what happened

the linesman gave the penalty and the ref followed his advice, the linesman put his flag across his chest, the signal to give a penalty

oh and looking in the law book there is nothing about advantage and how to apply it in the situation that occurred yesterday

When live I didn't spot the lino indicate a pen but having watched again on MoD it is clear that he indicate a pen, as you stated above. I can only assume that the blind lino missed the first pull put spotted the second just inside the box if that is the case then pen is correct. But how both officials missed the first pull I don't know as this should have been a free kick regardless of what happened subsequently.

my view on what happened:

the ref saw the initial pull by richards but gave no decision, whilst the linesman's view was blocked

when play advanced into the area the ref still made no decision, and wasnt going to make one until the lino gave the pen once the shirt pull came into view, and once the lino gives a pen the ref isnt going to overrule him

Well im sorry if i mist what you said on Thursday
But looney and Berbaflop are due what on Tuesday?

Folk are still guilty of commiting the cardinal sin and running him up into something he's not, his performance was ok, he never made a mistake, he gave the ball back to the opposition 8 times for no good reason other than his passing or heading was not accurate enough. That said his tackling was strong and measured and played where it should have been and he did'nt get greedy for the goal he scored (which he actually took well). But he did declare he thinks he's the best in that position....without being asked, self big-ups are usefull....sometimes, espesially amungst attacking players who have a great deal of ad lib license...not sure the trait is beneficial to a position that requires such regimentation. Rooney and Berbatov will be arriving next week, see how he fairs under a bit of heat.

Well Harry....all things being equal thier due to apply a little more heat than what Blackburn Rovers offered and if the Everton pressure is anything to go off then i'd imagine fresh air headers are not the ticket to South Africa.

For what its worth, it was the correct decision, the pulling started outside the box but ended inside, so a penalty is given.

The official ruling is this;

If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues
holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.

You can find it on page 15 of the refereeing laws;

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/law_12_fouls_misconduct_en_47379.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdevel ... _47379.pdf</a>

And even after someone quotes the laws, people don't want to know!

I'm not sure whether Marriner would have given it unaided, but his assistant can perfectly legitimately decide that Saha had an advantage outside the area (still one on one and a better advantage than a FK) but when Richards is in the penalty area pulling the shirt of a player who doesn't really look like getting past him (especially as he's having his shirt pulled) there's no advantage over a penalty kick, is there?

Of course it was a penalty, he had hold of a HUGE chunk of Saha's shirt. However my issue with it is that in every game in the Premiership this season there should have been a minimum of 5 penalties if referees and linesmen are going to give them for what Richards did yesterday. You either give all of them or give none of them, you can't just give them when it suits the FA's barely disguised agenda to maintain the top four's status quo.

was a defo pen! because for some strange reaso nthey seemed to miss the one outside the box but richard as stupid as he he carried on giving saha a tug on the shirt ALTHOUGH saha was back to goal and no where near the net, why he felt the need to tug his shirt when hes probably twice as strong as saha only he knows!

but those refs were garbage Pinear scores comes legging it over to the city fans IS THAT NOT A YELLOW CARD?
taking a shirt off warrants a yellow card and that didnt? JOKE is that marriner

Swings and roundabouts. We lost one Saturday we gained one tonight.

Consistency is good.
