Waspi Women

I have been trying to explain your last paragraph since I started this thread in 2019.
But these Waspi women can't see that it was their own responsibility to plan for their retirement, and they were all given more than adequate notice of the increase in SPA , but they want to blame someone else for their lack of planning.
And I will be very surprised if they get any compensation, the issue will drag on for years and years .
They weren’t given notice though that’s the whole point, millions never knew about, no Letter was sent out, listening to people in the radio saying they got to two tears before they were 60 and suddenly found out they had to do another 6 years.

I do agree people ned to take more responsibility, I knew the ins and outs of my own and state pension, but you’d be surprised at how ignorant sone people are of probably one of the biggest things in their lives.

Just completed a form on behalf of SWMBO on the BBC website and if labour get into power they will pay her @£11,500 over 5 years as compensation for not getting her state pension at 60.
Meanwhile I am expected to wait until I am 66 until I get a single penny of State Pension.
Whatever happened to equality of the sexes?
More to the point. Why were women ever allowed to retire 5 years earlier than men when, on average, they live longer?

You've nailed the whole problem with these Waspi women in just one word of your post.
IGNORANT. That to me sums up the whole thing. Most of these women ( not all,but most) would have had husbands, partners or boyfriends etc.
It's not asking a lot for these male partners/spouses to know about these changes as they were big news when the legislation was passed in 1995. So as far as I'm concerned the Waspi women deliberately decided to either ignore or adopt a " I'll sort it out one day" type of attitude.
I learnt about the changes by reading the financial articles in the Sunday papers ,so the information was widely available.
And my wife was affected by the change in legislation( she was born in May 1958),but we talked about it and made plans to take the new SPA into our financial arrangements.
She certainly didn't think that the government had " stolen" 6 years of her pension and demand compensation for those 6 years.

I read up on that earlier ( I didn't know the answer), and it's precisely because men die earlier than women.
Particularly when men worked in harsher conditions and were often dying early due to lung disease (mining and chemicals etc) , industrial accidents, and also as casualties of war.
So the welfare state felt it was correct to support these widowed women with a state pension that began at 60.

Exactly, how could they not know. Did they not view a paper, t.v. or speak to another single human being about the pension rise ? Surely if they worked, the day after the announcement, all their female work colleagues would have been bitching about it. I know I knew about it and I was a 26 year old bloke at the time.

Whether ignorant or not though, the government of the day had a responsibility to contact those women, they didn’t, this is what the ombudsman have said. They’ll not see any compensation as by the time it’s sorted most will be dead. Just look at the post office stuff, the blood people will be next, it will be dragged out until most are dead, in fact it’s been reported ministers actually stated when all this came about, just leave it they’ll go away eventually, that’s the contempt they have for us all.

Precisely, I was 39 in 1995 so I was a bit older than you.
As I keep saying, these women are making themselves look foolish and ignorant.
They want to blame the government/DWP for their own shortcomings.
They are the Liverpool fans of pensions, wanting compo for their own lack of financial planning.

I've never had a letter from the government advising me my pension age has gone up from 65 to 67. But I know it has cos I've not lived under a rock for 20 years

Maybe not, it wasn’t until this came about that I found out that since 2014 they are only allowed to increase the pension age by 1 year per decade after doing this to the WASP women, how many people know that? This was 1995, times were very different then, no social media etc, this sort of news would probably have been a foot note as the headline would’ve been Princess Di or some other nonsense in the red tops, how many would’ve read the broadsheets?
