found a large wasps nest in the shed,does anyone know how to get rid of them without getting stung to buggery?

does it look like it's been there for a few years? is it well populated? is it in the roof?
if the answer to more than one of these questions is yes, get the pest control man in, you dont wanna mess with 500 wasps with nothing to lose. anaphylactic shock is a killer.

we had a wasps nest and it we couldnt get rid of it with the sprays and foams from the shops but somebody recommended covering it and the area around it with ant powder , and this did the trick we havent seen any since

Easy. It comes out in a jet, goes up to 20ft, and it DOES kill instantly. You need to wait until dusk when they'll all have returned and soak everything, just use the whole can. How did they get in? They obviously have easy ingress / egress.
