Watford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

I thought Jacob Wright looked very comfortable when he came on. He was looking for the ball and did well in possession. He’s also a big unit. Definitely one to look out for.
Really impressive-helped by a v good first touch.

Wish we could have the real Foden back. Not sure what’s happened. :-(

Not sure Nunes or McAtee have done much to get them closer to the first XI either.

Rico MOTM by miles.

Wish Savinho’s shot had gone in, it’d have been a sublime goal and have done him the world of good.

In the next round with no major injuries. Job done.

Grealish was fucking excellent tonight. Had a real swagger about him.

I needed to see a lot more from Nunes. Goal aside, all a bit meh.

Disappointed Mcatee didn’t take it by the scruff. An exceptional talent but he just isn’t stamping himself on games when he gets the chance.

Well done Braithwaite. Brilliant for a 16 year old nipper.

Disappointing to be so wasteful in front of goal and to concede the first time they went near our goal
Normal service isn't it ?

I thought for the most part they played well for a team that didn't know each other, I was however disappointed we couldn't put it to bed, and then let them score, so we had to hang on at the end.

More positives than negatives over all.

Nunes best game for us, but you'd hope so against them, even if they started the season quite well.

Getting the job done was the aim, and we achieved it with minimal fuss. Can't be unhappy with that.

Was never going to be a game to take much from for a lot of players anyway but i thought many of them were underwhelming with a real lack of intensity in their game. Few of them at times played like they had just joined in with an under 8's game. Expected to see more desire to impress, Nunes and savinho the best of the first team regulars for me.

As for the kids, Mcatee I say exactly the same thing every time he features, he's lovely on the ball, can see his quality clearly shining through but he simply doesn't involve himself in games anywhere near enough and today was the same. Great work for the opener but he's got to start being more influential and impactful on the whole game to get himself into Peps thinking.

Braithwaite had a good debut, very easy for a 16 year old thrust into that scenario to get overwhelmed with the situation he found himself in and try too much in an attempt to impress but he kept it simple, showed nice composure and stuck to his task. He's clearly nowhere near ready for first team football but he can be very pleased with his display.

O'Reilly was fine, didn't make much of an impression, suggestions he could play for us in league games this season is way off the mark in my eyes.

Brilliant to see 6 academy lads feature in a game for us and expect to see a similar thing in the next round. Still don't get why we had such a strong bench mind.

Foden poor. Walker poor. Stones poor. Gareth Southgate has coached their skills out of them! Hopefully they’ll recover them soon.
Rico brilliant AGAIN and if he keeps up these displays he’s nailed on for Player of the Season.
Watford never gave up and if it wasn’t for Rico’s late intervention with that sliding interception they could have (embarrassingly) forced penalties.
All in all a night out better than watching telly but got pissed wet through walking home once I’d got off the match bus. :-(
