We don't work hard enough.

The tactics are everyone bomb forward and then they don't work hard enough to get back and defend.

I didn't find any real bombing forward until the last 10 minutes. Most of the time it was sideways/backwards passing as slow as possible. Arsenal passed it so fast compared to us and ran with the ball. Arsenal's 37% possession was more productive than our 63%.

One of the many reasons we don't perform to the level we should but both manager and lazy players who cannot or refuse to do simple things like press when they don't have possession are to blame.

Couldn't agree more with the poster. How many times weren't Giroud fighting defensively etc and he's not exactly a player known for running his socks off. It started promising but then it went all south. As someone said, with half the passion of Watford/Leicester etc, where would we be now? Afraid this is becoming another last season where we were 'in all competitions' just to blow everything up within a couple of weeks.

We don't have the work ethic required or the positional discipline needed as a team. Players can run without being tracked and space is always there.

Pep has his work cut out with some.

Those that don't toe the line will soon be gone if Pep comes in.

Our inability to do the basics when defending almost defies common logic sometimes.

Is it a so called professional outfit in the premiership we are watching ?

Having not read the whole thread, I do agree that we don't work hard enough, as a team, when we don't have the ball. It's a problem.

This is our problem in a nutshell. Whether it is the manager's fault, the coaching or the players, the reason we are not pissing this shit league is we are lazy.
I watch teams with not even half our ability like Palace, Watford, Bourmemouth and even Leicester winning because they work their socks off. I hate the word passion but we certainly lack it.
Beside the Chhelsea and Sevilla games can anyone name me a game when we outran the opposition? Even the 6-1 v Newcastle saw us struggle to match their workfare in the first half.
We may well have the best players but if they are not going to graft as well all the talent in the world will count for nothing.
Very true, we are awful without the ball, and that won't change this season. If we were to lose another 5 games in the 2nd half of the season, where will we finish? Worring alright.

We're an arrogant bunch of flat track bullies. We don't believe we have to put in any effort as we're so good we can just waltz to victory.

Can't wait for Pep to come in and ruffle some of these lazy cunts feathers.

Does anyone know what the tactics actually are, its not obvious that's for sure. Just looks like we send the lads and say go on then show us what you can do.

We are too busy for the whole week I think coaching the perfect move that results in the perfect goal. We need more blood, sweat and tears! How many times on this forum has the idea been iterated and reiterated that were we to adopt the style of play where teams chase, challenge, harry, harrass and close down, the sheer quality we have would overwhelm. It might be the general thought in the dressing room that having got this far the players have put their running, chasing, etc, behind them and we are to feel the quality not the sweat.

There is a correlation in our defeats this season; Our opponents had better defensive shape, organisation and ran a lot more than us in pressing us, denying space and time on the ball.

Then going forward they attacked in numbers, were quick and direct with their passing and clinical in their finishing.

Basic fundamentals.

Think this is our biggest problem, I've been saying it for a while.
If I could sum our current team in one word it would be "lazy".
We turn up and seem to do as little as possible to get by, sometimes our players quality wins us the game and masks over the fact we've been poor.
Bournemouth being a good example of this.
The manager has to share the blame for some of it, his tactics obviously don't help, but for a large part of it, it's the the players.
Is Pellegrini too nice?
Don't the players fear him enough and just take it easy?
Has our super training facilities turned our players into spoilt superstars?
God only knows, one thing for sure is we need start with a change of manager, then we'll see..
One thing I'm certain of, they wouldn't have got away with this under Mancini.

There are none, it's just disorganised to the point of a disgrace now.

No, it is not about working hard, it is about working smart.
We do not work smart enough
Dominating the first half and conceding two goals from the first two chances!!! out of 20 shots, only 6 on targets, while Arsenal out of 8 shots 5 on targets and two goals.
We need to work smarter instead of wasting time passing the ball in out territory.

Agreed Millenium. Sure I read somewhere that Leicester have had less possession in all bar one of the games they've won this season. Need to show more intent when we're in possession of the ball and play at a higher intensity, instead of the pedestrian pace we've become used to

They've been a revelation and you cannot imagine it happening in any other major league. Having said that they have an incredible conversion rate of goals to chances created, must be doing a lot of shooting practice!!

Outworked 9 games out of 10 - against shit sides our individual brilliance can mean this doesn't matter, against half decent sides like Pool, Arse, their workrate coupled with ability means we stand very little chance.

If you watched the way Arsenal defended they threw their bodies on the line to stop the shots where we did the opposite. There is no way Otamendi should have gone to ground and let Giroud score that goal, for me he does that way too often when he is probably the best face on tackler around. I felt a little sympathy for Mangala as he seems to get punished for every mistake he makes. He is obviously lacking in confidence and his eagerness to get the ball shows this but I believe he still can be a top defender but not under the current regime. I think the reason Delph played where he did was because Pellegrini guessed Walcott would be on the right but his unwillingness to change this says everything about his qualities as a top manager.
