We will not finish top 6...

i agree we will finish top6.....but im going for 4th which is indeed in the top6.

lescot and toure will be very very good additions to our squad and we will be scoring more goals than last season and wont let as many in this season so therefor my prediction is top4.

get a grip FFS the season aint started yet before moaners are out in force.

Lescott and Toure aren't bad additions to the squad, but together they're going to cost us around 35-40 million! How pathetic is that. 15m for Toure who should be 3rd choice CB at best here, and Lescott is going to be hideously overpriced at 20-25m. Bruno Alves is twice the player and will cost less than 20m. Sort it out Hughes.

This article is from a newspaper, not goal.com, they only publish another publication's work.

Kompany and Lescott is a top 6 pairing, Kompany/Lescott/B.Alves is a top 4 pairing. Komps won't be ready for the start of the season, so we need another top CB, we should be aiming so much higher than Upson and Toure, a midtable club's best defender and a top 4's 4th choice CB isn't good enough for a club trying to finish in the top 4.
this just your opinion which is fair enough but dont state them as facts! how can you tell me lescott and kompany is a top 6 pairing ? you cant its is factually impossible! toure upson and lescott would all improve our defence!

We were 3rd top scorers last season, the problem has always been defence and everybody knows that. Imagine if our attack wasn't so good last season, we could have come in the bottom half. Now for some reason, if our attack doesn't gel and/or performs to the same standard as last season, our defence is going to need to be a hell of a lot better. If we played Dunne and Onuoha at CB we'd finish 7-10th again, if we play Upson and Toure, I don't think there would be much improvement. Toure isn't much better than Onuoha if at all, and Upson isn't much better if at all than Dunne.

I am a very optimistic fan, people have laughed at my optimism in the past, but these signings don't fill me wth confidence. I know too much about these players to be happy with their arrival, it's just more proof that Hughes is scared to leave his comfort zone and isn't doing what's right for the club.
you seemingly know fuck all about Toure.
IMO 4 things make a quality defender.

1) - His ability
2) - His experience
3) - His teams style of play
4) - Opponents fear of said team

Toure is a quality player. If you think he isn't, i urge to visit an Arsenal forum and gauge the average fans view. Arsenal play a similar style of football to us and given our new signings i'd imagine teams will have a similar fear to playing us as they do playing Arsenal. This will probably mean opponents will be less adventurous against us. I can see a lot of teams playing us next season with the mentality that a draw will be a good result. We'll look more solid imo. Especially so if we sign Toure and Lescott/Upson.

Toure is a quality defender i think. Would do a great job for us. And upson he has played for England before and has looked very effective and would be a good signing for us. Yes i would rather have Toure and Lescott paired up together in defence but Toure and Upson i would be happy with to.

ant get a grip for fook sake lad.

so what if we are paying over the odds for players, lescott is worth 5-7 goals a season aswell and he always scores against us so therefor we wont conceed the goals he normally scores against us lol

chill out about the money because if it makes us get into the top 4 then why do you care? alves in my opinion is very very over rated and would much prefer genuine premiership proven defenders like toure and lescott.

i take it your going to be whining all season even if we dont lose a game all season ?

get a grip and give hughes a chance now he has got his own team in.

Lmao, I post on a European football forum which is largely dominated by United and Arsenal fans, from these Arsenal fans half of them rate Toure as 3rd choice CB after Gallas and Vermaelen, and a few others who are more knowledgeable rate him even further behind. He is finished, I assure you, and should we sign him everybody will hate him after 6 months.

Top 6 should be achievable with Lescott and Upson (although I'd be very underwhelmed if we bought Upson).

But we should be looking higher, and looking to build a squad that wioll take us to the next level from there. Someone like Upson will just need to be replaced in a year or so.

So what if we're paying over the odds? We're paying massive figures to the teams who are challenging us for 4th place ffs!!! I don't give two fcuks if we want to dish out 100m to Milan 'cos the only way that'll affect us when we face them in the CL in 2 years time, but for now, giving Arsenal 40m and Everton 25m is just as much a hinderance as it is a benefit. Both of those clubs will sign top quality replacements, and the benefits of us signing those players brings nothing to fruition as the other clubs will be improving just as much.

Me whining? I have stated before, but I'm one of the most optimistic City fans going. I just want what's best for the club and I am aggrieved because this isn't it.

It will be harder to get into the top 4 if we finance our rivals rebuilding by paying over the top fees.

I heard Upson is not keen on a move here and the main reason for that is that he doesn't get along at all with Bellamy. This was only on West Ham's Vital Football though....

but arenal are skint and most of there money will be going to clear there debt.

So why give a rival a hand paying off their debt then.

We wouldn't be happy paying an over the top fee to the rags, we've got to now take the attitude that beating the likes of Arsenal, Everton, Villa and Liverpool is just as important for us to get to the top.

glad you bought this up! last night you mentioned arsenal fans dont rate toure, well about 8am this mornin some came on bluemoon stating how gutted they be if he left, and last night you actually stated he's 5th choice at arsenal and you'd rather have song come to us! you clearly have it in 4 toure but thats your beef whatever, but just cuz a few arsenal fans have stated they dont rate him that doesn't mean he's not good, its clear there are many arsenal fans who do rate him! you also stated your knowledge of european football is "1st class" then can you tell me all the times in europe toure has been totally out of his depth? cuz like you i have a couple of gooner mates ( but there 1's i actually see) and they have said whilst he had a dip in form last season at times he's kept us in games, especially in europe!

Yup have to agree on this.......although we have destabilised some of our rivals eg Barry, it does rather annoy me to be paying over the odds for players.

so what your saying is lets buy lesser players from a different country?

bollox because if we bought say a player from milan and one from barca etc etc then they will be our rivals when we reach the champions league wont they?

lets get these premiership proven players in and not the unknown ones like the over hyped alves and chillieni who i thought was shite in the confed cup.

Barry wasn't too bad, I think Villa will struggle to rpelicate his influence for the £12m we gave them.

Adebayor could go either way. Tevez was fantastic, don't care how much he cost.

I suspect Chelsea missed out on an opportunity by selling Chelsea, I'm sure they could have done better in the long term with the money that we would have been prepared to give him. But he would have been such an impact signing I think it would have been worth it anyway.

Toure - suspect Wenger can't believe his luck, likewise if we get near the sums talked about for Lescott or Upson.

Thats not what I'm saying at all.

I'd rather we go for lesser players with the potential to be great than overpay for average players who we all know, but will never be any better than average.
