We will not finish top 6...

Right, everyone who disagrees with you is a rag? I've got a right to my opinion, and if you'd bothered to read my post I was saying the problem is with the manager (and therefore tactics and motivation) and specifically not the players. I said the players we had last year were good enough to do better in some games and ended up losing.

I agree, it's getting tedious that people are getting labelled as rags just because they dare to have a different opinion. It's childish and boring, I thought the purpose of Bluemoon was so we could discuss things about the club rationally.

Not yet and perhaps we won't. But either way, I can't understand why people think we aren't going to finish considerably higher this season than last.

I think because defence was a major problem last season. Its an area I am sure that we will strengthen greatly.

But say for argument's sake we don't. Does that mean Villa or Everton or both are likely to finish ahead of us? For a start, Hughes will be gone before the January window opens if it even remotely that the threadbare and ordinary Evilton and Villa squads will finish above us. Spurs maybe but those two? Can't see it.

im sure half of you lot on here are posting tongue in cheek because i cant for the life of me understand why its wrong to buy lescott and toure but yet most was all for buying terry and if torres was our target you would all start wanking over the thought of it.

Do you think maybe it's because Terry and Torres are a little bit higher quality than Lescott and Toure?

Just maybe.

maybe you should talk out of your mouth rather than your arse mate.

to call Toure and Lescott mediocre is a bit ridiculous.

Probably a bit over the top, Toure may recapture his form of a few years ago and while I don't think Lescott will ever be a top defender he would improve the squad right now. But neither are in the class of a Terry or a Torres.

All i am saying is what was said earlier with the whole 'we give them money and they find a better or equally good replacement' debate. We should do what is right for us and sign players beneficial to us and not worry who arsenal or anybody replace them with. If anything we are not mugs in the transfer market so we will buy at the price we feel the player is worth and nothing more.

Like I've said a few times, I have no problem with us buying players from other premier league clubs. But we are being mugs in the transfer market if we pay for players significantly more than what they're worth, and give our rivals a huge helping hand in the process.

Fine, but we don't do our business in isolation, we do it in a market where we've got to operate. That market is impacted by our ability to spend. If a team sells us a player, then they need to replace that player with money we've given them - If we bought Lescott from Everton for an over-inflated price, Everton then have to go and buy a replacement. If that's Upson, then chances are West Ham know what Everton have got for Lescott and that inflates Upson's price. That's how big spenders impact on the transfer market and it does trickle down. I can see the argument about not strengthening rival teams, but I think that's as much about Arsene and Moyes ability to spot a good player cheap. That's fair enough.

Similarly there isn't a sliding rule by which clubs have to abide when valuing players. It's a sellers market. We pay what a club wants or we negotiate on the understanding that we have a top line price that we will walk away from if the selling club value a player above that line with the risk that we'll then be left with last season's defence. I think people seem to think that the very top value players will automatically look at us as a viable prospect now and their clubs will charge a 'fair' fee for them. Some might, but I doubt most will. It's stepping stones improvement we'll need to demonstrate, because we won't be considered by the best until we're pushing the best teams. We finished 10th last season, after all, and if someone came in for Ireland, I damn well hope we'd make it as financially ball-crushing for the buying club as possible.

As for Lescott, he's a top 6 player, because he's an integral component of a good defence for a club which has regularly achieved top 6 status. He'd improve us immediately. Toure is a fine player too, but there are more question marks over him. Alves - who the hell knows. It's every bit the risk someone like toure is. Upson reads the game better than any of our centre halves and he's a better passer of the ball too, His pace is a worry as is his fitness so on balance I probably wouldn't bother except as a replacement for Dunne and a short-term one at that.

Well at the moment we have a better squad than the current 5th and 6th (Everton and Villa). All we need to do now is add 2 center halves.

We should not buy TOURE who is another past it player from Mr Wenger...and as Chelsea and United will not sell top players ..this leaves only Lescott and Matty Upson ...which if we add Kompany ..Bridge would give us a back 4 that would take us into a top four placing. Both would also make life easy for MH to put in his squad of UK players.

If Toure and Upson is our CB pairing. Apparently our pursuit of Upson is gathering pace. Shocking.

Manchester City could be readying a bid for West Ham United's centre-back Matthew Upson, following John Terry's decision to remain loyal to Chelsea - the only club he has represented throughout his professional playing career.

According to a report in The Times, which follows suit to a similar speculative piece published in The Mirror, City will not take Terry's snub to heart, and will continue their quest to significantly bolster their backline.

Upson is now regarded as England's first reserve, and has often been called into action by Three Lions boss Fabio Capello when either captain John Terry or team-mate Rio Ferdinand are unavailable.

The 30-year-old allegedly attracted admiring glances from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during the winter window, as the Gunners sought a defensive partner for former skipper William Gallas.

Ivorian international Kolo Toure has fallen down the pecking order at N5 and is still on City's shortlist of transfer prospects. A £10-15 million offer is apparently on the cards.

Who the bloody hell has let you lose on a computer, they deserve locking up.
