Weekend break in London.

I went to Luton v Swansea in December last year with some Welsh mates and ended up back in Kings Cross. A pint in some fun pub was £6.20.

lot's to do like any capital city really. avoid the tubes if possible, get a travelcard which gives you option of bus travel as well. you see so much more of the city that way. portrait gallery in trafalgar square is worth a visit, if it's open the galleries of st pauls cathedral give you a great view of london. old spitalfields market is a good place to go.

There’s lots of hotels in Kings Cross and it’s central enough for getting around. He wants Soho for bars / pubs. Many quite authentic for Central London. Camden has gone down hill. The markets sell ironic t-shirts.

I’ve lived here on and off for 15 years.
Do you like being bitten from giant Kings Cross bedbugs, pal? It's cheap as fuck to stay stay there for a reason. Bright mites, not bright lights!

Camden is a couple of stops from Euston. Not my cup of tea round there but plenty love it.

Personally if you want to do some walking, which at the moment may be preferable to being sat on the tube then for me the best place to stay would be somewhere where you can walk to all of the places below.
London is surprisingly walkable and I would avoid the tube if at all possible. Newbies to London sometimes get on a tube at one stop and then off at the next when it is literally 200 yards between them.

Westminster for Houses of Parliament/Big Ben/Westminster Abbey and St James park (Buckingham palace is walkable from there as is Hyde Park). You can catch the hop on/hop off boat from there too. Takes you right up to Tower Bridge and beyond.

Over the river at Westminster Bridge is the London Eye, South Bank Centre and you can walk right up to Tower Bridge from there passing the Globe Theatre and Borough Market (My favourite food place in London). It’s a lovely walk on a pleasant day.

Leicester Square/Piccadilly Circus and Convent Garden - Touristy but doubt there will be many overseas visitors so should be quiet. If you have never been to London then good for statues/shopping etc. Regent Street is off there and Carnaby Street hidden away behind it.

Soho is where all the Theatres (mostly shut I guess) are but from what I have seen there are plenty of people still eating out and drinking around there, particularly at the weekend. It is usually a place full of life but not sure it will be as vibrant currently.

The British Museum is worth a visit and like all museums in London is free. Not sure what the rules will be there though currently.

You haven’t said which weekend but the Premier Inn Leicester Square is right in the middle of it all and is an absolute steal at £68 a night weekend of 23/10! Usually sold out that one and often 2/3 times that price!

Pimlico is a good location for the price. Bit rough in places but easy walks to Parliament, Buck House, Tate Britain etc.. Easy to get to from Euston, and Victoria Station (not too far a walk) has a modern eating/shopping centre. Don't bother with the Tate Modern unless you're really into modern art.

Greenwich Palace and the Royal Observatory are worth a visit but they're across town from Pimlico. As is Tower of London and Tower Bridge, but the tours of both are interesting.

Passport to Pimlico, great film.

Good luck in London, last time I went I couldn't wait to get out of it.

There’s nice hotels too for all budgets.

Before I moved here, a few of us went to a gig at the Scala because the band were only playing one date. Our hotel was £35 a night and an absolute dump. Hotel Putrid or similar.

As I got back to my room, I caught a prostitute knocking on for someone. The fire alarm got set off at 4am too.

Lol. Do you not understand irony? Re-read my post and your post you replied to; )

I would recommend Bayswater/Paddington or Bloomsbury/St Giles area to stay. The latter are close to all the theatres, and west end. The former close to Hyde Park. The tube for me is the only way to get round london, quick, and easy. Camden is only 2 stops from Euston and I really enjoyed the indoor market, and outdoor food market. There is a pub on the Strand called the Wellington, and its a great place for watching London go by. It serves decent food, and beer, and its close to covent garden, and the London eye.
