Weekend break in London.

I've seen that they've said the Tower of London is literally devoid of tourists at the moment so that's worth going to definitely - but I can recommend a website I've used a few times called 'London Walks' have a look - they do dozens of different guided walks which you pay for when you meet the guide with other people at an underground station - they'll take you round streets and areas which you'd never know about without their knowledge, really interesting, we'll worth it.

The general air of London is that of indifference. People keep themselves to themselves and you can spend an entire day not speaking unless it’s truly necessary. The social cohesion is shocking in comparison to literally every other place in the country.

I had a quick pint in a Liverpool pub after viewing my flat and a crew of old school Scousers were on me in seconds. They were admiring my new trainers and t-shirt from a specialist shop I use up there (I forget the name) and asking lots of questions. Some Everton, some Liverpool. All mates. I left after 30 minutes and felt like I’d made friends!

That’s literally never happened in London.

Not sure if its been mentioned in the previous pages but if you like a walk these are great. Cover many central areas, include lots of refreshment stops and full of interesting places not always visited by most. For instance the picture above is off St James’s Street, next to the wine merchants Berry Bros. They themselves are full of history and their shop is interesting, but this was also where Texas had an embassy before it joined the union, and through the arch is London’s smallest square where the last duel is said to have taken place.

To be fair I think Liverpool is the complete opposite end of the spectrum.Bet they said like a few times when they saw your
Traineees.

“Hey mate I like your trainees like

“Cheers”

“They are boss them like”

50% of the population of Essex are probably ex Londoners - most real Londoners have now moved out and only travel back in for work or to watch their football teams, the new modern day Londoner is a total amalgamation of different nationalities who normally have little or no affiliation to this country.

That just made me chuckle. You're pretty much spot on.

One had a 96 badge on his jacket and the Everton fans all wore branded EFC gear. My travel suitcase is plastered in flags of the countries it's been to with me. There's a Turkey sticker on it (before Azerbaijan v Wales) and one Liverpool boy was all like "Istanbul 2005... Best night of me life."

I do have some good friends in London but it felt like a year before I was accepted. People asking my name etc. It was seconds in Wales, Manchester etc.

If Camden is on the Agenda then worth staying in North London, near Archway or Highgate. You will be on the Northern line and only 20 mins in to the centre. Camden has a cool market, and worth a wander round to be topped off with some nice pubs. Regents Park is in the area. Angel is also a nice place for a few drinks and food.

No doubt you will want to visit the usual spots, Westminster worth going just to see the spectacular Palace of Westminster followed by a walk through one of the Royal parks near by leading you to Buckingham Palace or a walk down Whitehall leading to Trafalger Square.

There's a boat you can take from Westminster pier down to Greenwich which allows you to see a lot of the sites from the river. Great pubs around Greenwich and a nice view of the City from the park.

Really don't get the attraction with Leicester Square, there's fuck all there apart from tourist trap pubs and an M&M store. Worth avoiding but Covent Garden is a nice with again some nice pubs.

Has to me. A lot of main pubs in London centre are tourist traps, you are never going to stir up a conversation in them. Find a nice old pub off the beaten track, and there are shit loads of these, and people talk quite happily.

I just don't get the London slagging off. Its a great city with some fantastic pubs and places to visit.
