Weight loss jabs

An old friend of mine who's always been very, very heavy and has had trouble with binge-eating disorders for years started out on Mounjaro a couple of years ago. The transformation I've seen in him is unbelievable.

I've known him since he was 11 years old and I realised only recently that I never actually saw him eat at school. You don't really pay attention to that kinda stuff when you're a kid, but when he eventually opened up about his eating disorder it all came flooding back. He never brought a packed lunch and never snacked with us - he would just starve himself until he went home. Then he'd eat 3,000-5,000 calories between 4pm and 10pm. Every single day of the week.

He first tried to lose weight in the early 2010s. Back then, he was 20 years old, 6ft4, and about 28st. He lost about 6st on that first run, but while exercising one day he aggravated an old broken toe injury and just never got back on the bike. From then on, whenever he's tried to start playing football or what have you, he'd mess his toe up again, or do his ankle in, or have knee problems. I honestly thought he was gonna be dead from a heart attack by the age of 40.

Then the pandemic struck. His parents had briefly moved to Ireland for work in 2019 and ended up stuck there, so they just bought a house and set up shop. Suddenly my mate was living in the house on his own, which meant he had a lot of time to think about himself and his life. He got himself a therapist and realised a lot of his eating habits were formed when he was struggling to shed the puppy fat around the time he started high school, when I met him.

He was eventually diagnosed with C-PTSD from some stuff that had happened to him as a kid (grew up in Northern Ireland during the backend of the troubles) and he realised that him and his mum hadn't had a normal relationship at all. They'd argue a lot, and his way of coping with those arguments was to stuff his face. Stuffing his face to cope made him fat, and him being fat meant he didn't want to attract attention to his weight by eating at school, etc.

He rewired himself over the course of about 18 months and dropped a couple of stone, so he decided to try playing football again to help keep the weight down. Another ankle issue. At this point he cracked, and looked online at these new diabetes drugs they were giving to celebrities in America to lose weight. He ordered some and got started. The adjustment was tough - he had to drop from 4,000 calories per day (on average) to about 1,800.

If he ate over 2,000 calories a day, the Mounjaro would just expel it from his body through any hole possible. He got KFC one night thinking it'd be alright. Nope. He spent the next two days with it coming out of both ends. Over the last 2-3 years he's completely lost his cravings for sugar because he knows what's coming if he overdoes it. In this time he's lost about 8st and, proportionally, it's the least weight I've ever seen on him in 20 years of being his mate.

I saw him recently for the first time in a few months. We went for dinner near his house. I found myself staring at him like I was in love with him. His fingers had actual definition and I could see the actual shape of the bones in his wrist. His shoulders actually looked like proper shoulders. His clothes were actually a bit loose instead of looking like they were choking him. I gave him a hug when we said goodbye and my hands almost met round his back.

He told me that he's been playing football again for a few weeks now and that he can already feel that his knees and ankles aren't suffering afterwards. That he can't believe just how much weight his feet and ankles were having to deal with while he was running around. It's completely changed his life, to be honest. I understand these things always come with risks but using them responsibly like my mate has can make such a profound difference.

I've used these as I was a big lad and a diabetic currently 8 stone lighter and all my bloods are now healthy.

I also pay for them myself just the £220 a month.

It's alright @@@@ ends saying get to the gym you lazy so and so but it's not only weight, most obese people suffer with depression, lack of energy so kindly @@@@ off with your shit comments.

I'd tell anybody suffering with weightloss or diabetes to immediately buy these if of course they can afford them. Also wouldn't begrudge people getting them for free either, theres foreign fuckers getting free benefits, clothes & houses which is worse.

Absolutely bang on. Yet another drain to an already at breaking point vital service.

Get out of the fridge and out of the house. Buy a fitness watch (some are cheaper than a takeaway) and start with 10/15000 steps a day. Put the chips and booze down. Learn some fucking accountability
Be careful before the wokeys get offended

which are you on?
I'm planning on buying some retatrutide this week. I'm not that fat but I go on holiday in August and if I lose a stone, I reckon I could have a decent 6 pack for holiday and I have zero will power when it comes to eating.

I mean, imagine going to a GP who, along with other previously tried an tested methods suggests using modern medicine to help lose substantial weight, feel and look better about yourself physically & mentally and ultimately help save future resources for the NHS.

THE FUCKING GALL!!!!

Exactly mate.

Might make you lose weight, wont clear your clogged arteries after eating shite for years.

Think some (not all) people see it as they can get the injections and eat just like normal, stuffing their face with fat laden rubbish.

We re living in a society that promotes unhealthy eating. From the moment we are born we are bombarded with adverts and propaganda telling us its normal to drink Red bull all the time, that ordering deliveroo fast food rather than going there to buy it.

The gullible, low IQ, addictive persons, etc have no chance with all that.

Just calling them fat, their own fault, twats, baby making machines is a bit shallow tbh. The problem is deeper than that.

To be fair, as much as laziness and a lack of accountability is the real cause for a lot of fat people - the NHS handing out jabs like Ozempic might cost them £100 a month in the short term (per person) but it will likely save them fucking millions down the line if the number of people suffering with heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and renal failure can be reduced.

So you getting slimming tablets is more important than the homeless getting fed and homed? Foreign or not.

You pay for it you have nothing to answer for.

Until the food industry is controlled things like this have to happen. People in this country have no idea what they're consuming and there are so many products pretending to be healthy.

With three young kids I became a bit of a lazy slob. Lockdown helped, started doing some Joe Wicks workouts at home - he puts them up on youtube. He's not for everyone, but I like him and most of what he says is true. Days I'm feeling tired or stressed and would turn to food, he says just do 15-20mins of exercise and it works. I feel more energised and less stressed.

Been going to the gym regularly for the past 9 months and finally getting into decent shape. As a result I've been much more conscious about what I'm eating and it's staggering how much shit is in things pretending to be good for you. Been trying to boost protein intake, and you get so many "high protein" energy bars, drinks etc which are actually quite low in protein and high in sugar. All that does is makes you crave sugar more, so when you stop exercising you pile on weight by eating the wrong things.

Whilst it's certainly true diet and exercise will work for the vast majority of people, it's not easy when people are getting stitched up by the food industry. My mrs goes to exercise classes and she says so many of the women put fuck all effort in and then go for a cake afterwards before wondering why they're not losing any weight. The obsession with weight over health and use of BMI is an issue as well. BMI might be okay as a crude benchmark but no more than that.

But we've known for years what you should and shouldn't eat, there isnt really a stitch up. Oily fish rich in omega 3 (not covered in batter), fresh veg, salad, fresh fruit, white meat, pulses and wholegrains, all washed down with plenty of water.

Its not rocket science.
