Welcome Julian Alvarez | Signing confirmed on a five-and-a-half year deal

I don't believe he is a CFG signing. The fee involved is too high for just another CFG singing.

Then explain why he's staying at River Plate if we think he's so good.
Lots of reasons I’d imagine. None of which tell us how good we think he’ll be, or how good he will when he arrives. Thinking you know our plans for him is just wild guessing.

Alvarez ooooooh

He comes from River Plate
Aguero is his mate

Unlike some on here I’m really exited about this one.

Tbf, Gabby stayed in Brazil for a few months after we signed him. The big difference with him though was that we paid £27m and were certain that we wanted him in the first team as soon as he arrived.

With Alvarez it's all a bit "Well he could be in Pep's plans but also he might not be? Some people at the club say he is, some people say he isn't". I'd hardly feel confident of staying at City if I was Alvarez.

He paints a pretty clear picture, that some people at City think Alvarez is in our first team plans for next season, while some other people at City clearly don't. The fact that the latter camp even exists is a sign that his future at City isn't as cut and dry as some people on here would have you believe. If we're signing a 22 year old and still can't make our minds up as to whether he's good enough for the first team, why are we bothering? The answer is that he'll be worth a tidy extra £10-15m to us in a couple of years.
Only two peoples opinions count and you don’t have the faintest clue what their opinions of this signing are.

Perhaps that was part of the deal which secured the bargain price? And perhaps Pep doesn't think we need him this season....just spitballing, don't have any insight into the transfer negotiations or Peps plans, but I'm pretty sure that if he's SA footballer of the year then he has something going for him

I know you were all mostly kidding when you said River Plate, another CFG club but it is literally impossible. Argentinian law does not allow for football clubs to have owners, they all have to be 100% fan owned.

Also, I'm not surprised he'd want to stay in River for now, he's very much on the verge of truly making it to the World Cup squad and he's going to have a far better chance of going if he's regularly playing for River than if he's on the bench at Man City until he gets up to speed
