Welcome Maicon

Said it before, but Maicon was suffering from a lack of motivation. The Inter Milan team won everything they set out to win. Then the Brazil team failed and it was a huge blow to a lot of the team.

I think the biggest difference between Mancini signings and Hughes signings, is that Mancini gets players, who are hungry. Hence even when he gets it wrong with say Boateng or Kolorov they are still keen to move to get their careers back on track. Too many Hughes signings moved for a pay and were content to finish their careers.

That said I trust that if Mancini has decided to bring Maicon in, then Maicon is focused and determined to work hard. He must have regained the hunger. The world cup in Brazil is delicious a carrot for any Brazilian to turn down. Maicon probably has his eyes set on that and will give everything to make it. Lastly Maicon is a mental beast. A true winner and it is bound to rub off on the younger players.

You will hopefully post here more often. I have read a few of your posts and although I don't always agree your posts are well though out.

At first, when I heard we were going for Maicon, I could only help but thinking, "what the fuck?" But the more I thought about it, I realised that this could be a very astute signing. Ask most Inter fans and they'll tell you he's still one of the better attacking fullbacks in the world.

Okay, he's not as fast as he once was but his attacking ability has not left him. Let's not forget that Kolarov and Zabaleta are slower than him and if they can still fire all those crosses despite their lack of pace, then I can imagine what a motivated Maicon could do as he would be the best crosser at the club.

He's comfortable in possession. Not many fullbacks are and the best ones tend to share this trait. A player like him isn't restricted to the flank and can easily slot into midfield and attacking positions to help build an attack.

I think he's a bit like Kolarov with better crossing, passing, dribbling, and a knack for making things happen on his day.

Sometimes our RBs (and LBs, but mostly RBs) squander too many good chances, or make the wrong choices when in the right positions. I think a seasoned vet like Maicon could really make a difference when called on, and help teach our developing players like Richards.

Heres his first full interview, as some posters have mentioned here before, what stands out in this as well is the word "Motivation", he seems to have the hunger and desire rekindled in him

You can see the guy who believes in himself.

PS. how shit was that question - "Do you want to make as big history here as other ex Man City Brazilian players Elano and Robinho?"

Robinho and big history in City?

It was funny to see his smile of disbelief and read his words - "I want to make much bigger history than them."

What else could poor guy say..

I'm pretty sure he is still much better than any of City's fullbacks, including Richards.

For 3 millions and wage reportedly significantly less than 80k he had in Inter, it was a no brainer really.

Having him to be in team for Richards to become even better alongside him is worth that money alone.

Maicon used to be compared with cafu all the time, its easy to forget cafu played for milan into mid 30s and was still mega.
I dont expect the maicon of the champs league winning team, i do expect a player who will join in play overlap silva with a better end product than zaba and micah. Anything more is a bonus.

maicon is on the same euros 4.5M after tax a year as he was at inter. i'm not good at math but that should be something like £140/150k a week
