Even if he's primarily backup he's clearly very talented and has the perfect mix of age plus experience to be very hungry pushing for more game time immediately you get the impression if Sergio Gomez plays he'll be effective during our attacks, which will be very good for us as it'll keep Cancelo on his toes for both sides of our defence with no disrespect meant to Oleks who was a great servant but Cancelo knew he had no creative competition at left back that he'd be back in a week later, Sergio Gomez's assist and creativity numbers give him valid competition and a reason to look over his shoulder in both the short and long term forcing Cancelo to up his game even more it can only be a good thing for us.

And no wonder we moved for him. La Masia education under his belt and someone who has played the attacking role and can move into a defensive position. That's just what Pep wants, defenders who know how to operate with and without the ball in forward areas. Looking forward to seeing him play, a really good signing by the club with no pressure as we'll get his fee back if he doesn't make the grade. As a City fan, he'll be so keen to do well though and I'm sure he will. Great to have another option on the left side, especially with JWE available as extra cover and Rico Lewis getting a chance to cover Walker.

4 of the 7 goals were penalties, so not quite so mad for a left back.

15 assists is impressive though - obvs a much lower level, but it's nearly as many as Kyle Walker has in his entire time with us.

Welcome Sergio Gomez. I don't have high expectations in the short term, but looks like a real talent and I'm feeling positive about him becoming a class player for us over time under Peps guidance. Hopefully we'll get to see him play in the charity game next week!
