I was always a big Mancini fan, especially during the early months of 11-12, but let’s not get too revisionist, because it wasn’t always exciting.
The point I was making was that I understood what he was trying to do. In fact, I’m struggling to think of many (if any) games that we didn’t win, when ahead with less than ten minutes remaining. That was his style, and we loved him for it.
The best example of Pellegrini’s style was the League Cup Final against Sunderland, when despite being out-thought, outfought, and outplayed for an hour, we suddenly produced two of the greatest goals Wembley has ever witnessed.
Unfortunately, when those long shots are saved or hit the woodwork ,we tend to struggle.
