Wembley 99'

Makes me smile so much watching that clip and deeply ashamed at the same time. When Dickov scored that 2nd I was halfway down Wembley way feeling absolutely sick. Yes I was one of THEM that left early! Needless to say we got back into the stadium in better seats than we had before and saw extra time and the penalties from right behind the goal.

I said after that I would never leave a City game early again. I never did until an FA Cup game at White Hart Lane when we were 3-0 down at half time.... HURTS, still!!!!!!

I still get goosebumps when I see that. Something I will never tire of. Got to thank me old man AGAIN for saying 'no' when I said 'let's go' with 5 minutes left. I was distraught. The rush when that hit the net was even better than when Weaver saved the last penalty. What a day.

Went down with four mates, we were only 19/20 at the time and had never been to Wembley before. I remember being dissappointed with the facilities, especially the bogs overflowing with piss and the crap view from our seats. The contrast between Gillingham fans and City fans before the game was noticeable - most of their fans were treating it like a day out in London and were having picnics and taking photos. Most of the City fans I met were pissed up and staggering about before the game had even started!

When Gillingham went 2-0 up I just stood there frozen, thinking to myself we would now be in this division for another couple of years. When Horlock pulled one back I thought - too late. I was ready to leave but my mates told me to stay and when Dickov equalised I grabbed the man in the aisle behind me and went absolutely mental. I knew we would win then and of course we did. Still remember that "rocking all over the world" was played when the players were celebrating after the penalties. Whenever I hear that song now it reminds me of that day.

Afterwards we asked the man in our hotel where would be the best place to go out in London. For some reason, he told us to go to Ealing and it was utter shite! We ended up getting lost on the tube but made it back to the hotel in time to watch the highlights on TV.

Still one of the best days ever.

I can talk about this afternoon forever. I was 24 so have very good memories of the day and the long wait for tickets the week or so before. Went down via car. My dad drove and me my brother and his mate set off early. Picked up a female Rag (don't ask my Dads idea to get her a ticket) and then continued South passing coaches and coaches of City fans all with the MEN men in blue poster in the windows.

Remember passing emilymcfc and her family on the M6 somwhere near Stafford ( I think). Then the stop at Watford gap services with thousands of City fans singing 'you can stick your treble up your arse' waiting to use the toliets.

Arrived at Wembley and have to admit at 2-0 down I was reduced to tears. The previous few years had been shitty but I think this reduced me to a new low. A City return to the topflight looked a million miles away nevermind ever becoming a power in the land again.

Can't describe that feeling when Dickov scored. I don't think I've ever celebrated a goal quite so furiously (even against the Rags) it was just mayhem. It can never be understated just 'how' important that goal was in Citys history (oh sorry we haven't got one have we).

I have wrote about getting a ticket for the game on another thread.

This is pinned above my desk as i type this.(sorry for the size)

Division Two......................This is what keeps MY feet firmly
planted. My eldest son is 16,and i say to him how lucky he is to be a Blue...He has had no pain,
no ritual humiliation, and for the most part every thing has been rosy for him(the 2-2 draw against Pool still haunts ME,4 grown men walking home to gorton and no more than 20 words were spoken between us)
If it all went sour tomorrow with the owners, and we found ourselves back in 99,it would be sad,
but not the end of the world

Proud to be Blue

get over it and move on
boring
or would you rather us be shit?
i like where we are now

The day is a bit of a blur, but got the first train down, and booked the last one back... Well it was going to be an easy victory surely...

Loads of beer b4, strole the match, win 5 nil and drink for 4 hours after, celebrating the boys victory!!! I was 23 and stupid back then...

Spent the first 3 hours in london at some pub on Baker Street, with hundreds of other blues. Loads of Jap tourists taking pics of us "Goin Mental" on the street corner...

then off to wembley, and all that is history.... Never left, altho 2 mates who were drivin did. Always remember some blue on top of the TV Box at the tunnel picking his flag up, and throwing it down again in disgust, after it went 2 nil...It was back there after Horlock scored...

Then Dickov socred, and our 2 mates who had done one, were back, and the celebration after Weavers save will never leave me!!! Great day, which is amazing to say considering it was a Div 2 play off... MENTAL!!!
