Were we this bad last time Kompany was out?

The system we now use is more reliant on Kompany than last season. Not only do we play with a higher line but we don't have Barry to shield the defence either. Our game relies on Kompany charging out of defence and winning the ball back quickly, or at least slowing the opposition down. Neither Lescott nor Nastasic want nor are able to do this (Lescott failing to do this job properly is what gave Hull their 1-on-1 with Hart); they are more like sweepers in that they prefer to back off. That's why Hull were so successful in picking the ball up in the middle of the pitch. Because Barry isn't there covering, and neither centre-back willing to/capable of making the early tackle.

I think..

Don't think mate you will hurt yourself :)

Spot on though, the single footed snail is sorely missed. I have not worked out what he does, but he does it bloody well.

Personally I don't think we were ever as good as our stats showed. We were shit at defending corners last year using zonal marking so our poor defending corners can't be put to switching to man to man. It's the players playing very reactive instead of attacking the ball. We played very narrow so that left little space to be attacked in the middle. Now we are spread out more so there is more space. The players are supposed to be pressing the ball but they aren't. So there is more space and they have more time to make passes.

We never played Garcia and Lescott together so hard to compare them to Lescott/Nasty and Kolo. We were shit vs Southampton last year and had Barry in the middle. We were pretty awful in every CL game last year and that was with Vinnie. If you go back and watch the last 2 seasons we gave up a lot of chances that teams didn't take advantage of. Even the 6-1 game we gave up some chances that should have been taWe ken advantage of and would have changed the whole game. Were fortunate the opposition was so poor.

Much as I like Barry, he played in most of our worst performances last season, Southampton, Ajax, Everton..

Not really worthy of it's own thread but it amused me so I'll tag it on here.

Tweet from Kompany yesterday:

Congratulations @FellianiM. Any countryman doing well I'm happy for.
So now we will be neighbours.
Careful I can be quite noisy.

Bad?

We've won two games and scored 8 goals including two clean sheets.

This is not a playstation game you do know that?

I know ay. My reaction after logging onto BM after the Hull game. I was expecting people to be happy with 3 points.

We have reached the stage now where 3 points is not good enough, those days are thankfully gone. We need to be dominating teams and we need to have the same level of committment for every game. We have the best squad of players without doubt, the acid test will be how we perform against the top 6 teams, as it stands we are not playing well enough to beat them.
On the plus side I think we will be ok once Pell gets his system running smoothly and the team carry out his instructions instictively rather than having to look to the players beside and in front to check their positioning.
It will come and I honestly believe we will win the PL this season.
