West Brom Vs City Post Match Thread

I have to say, I thought that was one of Navas' best ever city games. I thought he was excellent. Silva was unbelievable, Yaya was back to his dominant best, and the whole defence was solid.

My early season prediction is, IF we can beat the chavs on Sunday, we will be top of the league for the whole season, and win it by 14 points.

How's that for confidence.

Navas gets himself in good positions and tries hard, but it appeared to me that whatever move we had broke down with him just about every time he touched it. He can't beat his man, doesn't get a good cross in, and can't escape trouble.

Interesting. I felt Silva's starting position was often enough parallel to Toure on his right hand side. It's a hair we're splitting defo but yeah it looked fucking great. The thought of adding one or two top class players to that side is mouth watering.

Are you happy enough with the balance of the side I know it's been a worry of yours ?
Be interesting to see any maps or whatever from the game to get a greater idea of what the formation really was. Looking at the personnel it would be 4231, but silva did roam everywhere, and often pick the ball up deep near Toure, so perhaps it was a 433. Whatever, it was unbelievably fluid, and an absolutely dominant performance, away from home against a traditionally tough manager (although he didn't get it right).

Silva and toure were unbelievable, and I was very impressed with both full backs.
I've said all summer we need to strengthen our CM, but if toure continues that form, he is simply undroppable. With Fernandinho, delph and Fernando to support, you would have to say that maybe we don't need to. Only one game though, and that doesn't consider potential injuries.

Unbelievable performance though. Goes without saying, but far and away the best performance of the weekend.

It definitely wasn't 443, Mike Dean would have noticed (though it did take him about 70 minutes to notice any fouls on Silva).
Jacob was a disgrace last night for them, cynical hacking of Silva the moment he came on the pitch, he wasn't afforded any protection from Dean whatsoever , Dave is made of stern stuff though and can handle it.

For the amount of dangerous positions he gets himself into his end product is quite disapointing but just of the top of my head he created Toure's first goal and set up a nice chance for Kun last night.

I thought he played well last night but then again, there wasn't a single bad performance from anyone.

Wonder what the many football experts who were predicting us to be in a battle for 4th place this season were thinking watching us last night? I know it's only one game and it was against West Brom but we were very impressive last night and if I'd have acted all smug writing off a team who put in that kind of performance I would be feeling a little silly this morning.

I didn't see that coming...

Fantastic performance. Silva in the middle is just sublime, with the added bonus that it shores us up defensively. Sterling was able to track back down the left and offer Kolarov some protection, rather than Dave drifting around from wide and then being out of position when we lose the ball.

Yaya and Vinny look to be back.

Navas looked much improved, maybe the threat of competition will sharpen him up a bit. Sagna also looked good, he was always fine defensively last season but looks to have more understanding with Navas now.

Fernandinho continues to prove he was worth every penny that was spent on him.

My minor gripe is that I would have liked some minutes for Iheanacho, if not at 3-0 up then when? I understand the reasons for the subs he made but there will always be reasons to bring on the more experienced players, at some point he's going to have to show some faith in the youngsters.
