West Brom Vs City Post Match Thread

Am I the only person who noticed both teams were wearing white shorts? (I thought there was some kind of rule preventing kit clashes).
Apart from that, we were superb! But......it's only one game I refuse to get carried away.

No one can slag Demichellis. He was cool as fuck in possession, looked twice the midfielder Fernando does.

Just wish he'd kept his majestic ponytail...

Great start and great to watch. Without getting too carried away many doubters will now have to reasses their fears and many so called 'experts' should be getting ready to eat their words.

My only concern is our addiction to all out attack. Against West Brom we can get away with it and throughout the season it will see us winning a greater percentage of games with very few draws.

But against the better teams I would feel far more comfortable with a more considered and conservative approach. For Sunday if fit I'd go with this:-

Hart
Sagan - Kompany - Mangala - Kolarov
Fernandinho - Delph
Silva - Yaya - Sterling
Aguero

For me this provides better protection for our defence whilst allowing enough attacking options to win the game. It also will allow us greater control in the all important midfield battles.

Any thoughts?

Yeh, Delph's injured.

I'm a bit miffed to be honest.
Here I am visiting the UK from NZ, not able to get to the game because of commitments with family.
Looked forward to watching the highlights on the OS.
But I had to register to view them.
Well I am already registered but the site will not recognise me so I cannot see the reputedly excellent performance.
Message sent to the club to find out why I am being locked out.
At least the media reports made good reading and top of the table to boot.

Great performance and atmosphere last night.
I can't recall many games when all our players delivered on the night.
Defense looked solid and Silva was sublime.
It was fantastic to see Kompany back to near his best and I hope this will be a turning point for him. The lad needs confidence and that goal may just do the trick.
Yaya looks to have regained his mojo and Dinho ran Silva a close second for MOTM in my eyes. He reminded me of NDJ in his pomp with the added bonus of fantastic pass completion.
All on all an ideal start to the season.
The only downside for me was the oaf stood behind me who covered me in spittle every time he opened his gob to abuse the ref (which happened every 15 seconds on average). Couldn't wait to jump in the shower when I eventually got home.
Can't wait for the chavs now....

I counted at least two free kicks early in second half which were completely needless, the player moving away with his back to goal, but Dinho still tried to push him off the ball.

One resulting free-kick came from Lambert, which Joe definitely wasn't getting to.

We have to be even smarter and make these cynical challenges much higher up the pitch, where the impact can be much less so.

Our midfield holder will always collect yellow cards likes Smarties because we attack as a front six rather than a three or four.

Totaly agree Tolm. I was sat behind the goal and was pretty sure if Hazard was taking those free kicks, it will be a different story

There was no clash mate, both were white but west brom were wearing long shorts and city were wearing short longs.

With the length of those keks you couldn't even see dave's knees [emoji23]

i agree tolm its the way barca play swamp the oppositions half with players and 9 times out of ten even if you lose the ball you will win it back i think we could be on for a record number of goals this year.

Completely agree with that, I was fuming at the time. If you ever listen to Tim Vickery who is a South American specialist he reckons the job of a Brazilian midfield player is to break up play by committing small fouls to disrupt the oppositions flow. Not my view of the beautiful game & in the cases pinpointed here Dumb

Just wondering, has there been any sort of dubious goals review with the first goal? Who has officially been awarded with it? Technically should be Silva's because his slight touch meant it nutmegged the defender. But did Yaya get it?

it's a toughie, usually deflected goals go to the player who struck it originally if it was on target, as it was with Ya Ya, but Silva tried to touch it so perhaps he'll get the nod. anyways, we shall see.
