If that's ever the case - with any player - then we already have a problem regardless of how well they're justifying it. No player can consider himself an automatic starter without periodically looking over his shoulder.
Kompany plays because he has a band on his arm. It's fucked up, I know, but it's the truth.

This has easily been the worst preparation for a season I can remember.
We go into our first game without Aguero, Zabba, Yaya, Clichy and Fernandinho, all of who would have made the starting 11 under normal conditions.
Our only option up front are Bony who (no fault of his own) is not match fit, and Dzeko who does not want to be here and may not well be here come Monday week.
The only silver lining comes from Sterling and Denayer who definitely will add much quality to the team.
I just hope we don't give the title away in the first month.
I usually am a glass half full kind of guy but I must confess to being apprehensive about my trip down to the Hawthorns given what I have seen over the last few weeks.

As last season, we are hopeless at defending the long ball through the middle and I don't see a new central defender or defensive midfielder coming in before the season starts.

Our only hope is to pack central midfield until the South Americans are fit to start or some defensive cover is acquired. That means starting with Denayer and Mangala at the back with Kompany in the holding midfield position. Fernando and YaYa make up the engine room with Sterling, Silva and Nacho up top.

We won't win many friends with that team, but hopefully it's good enough to stay in touch with the leaders whilst the management figure out who the fuck we can get in before the window slams shut in our face.
