West Ham (A) Post Match Thread

In the NBC broadcast, Tony Gale was going on and on and on and effing on about how West Ham were creating chance after chance far more than City and that the scoreline could be far different, etc..

I watched that on my phone with the volume really low but could hear somebody wittering on about West Ham

Problem with watching it on a stream on my smartphone was that the city app flashed up goals 30 seconds before they happened so I knew every time when we were about to score but also knew when promising attacks were gonna come to nothing

So I'm rewatching the game in the states and I can't help but feel the commentators were full on pulling for WH. They seem genuinely disappointed every time a Hammer attack fizzes and seem bent on pepping up the team. They seem to downplay city goals as well.

Arlo White is by far the best match commentator on NBC. You genuinely cant tell who he supports, he is a bit of a stats junkie so adds that to his comments, and gets properly excited when a goal is scored. Peter Drury is decent also - check out his commentary for Jesus's centurion goal.

Maybe Martin Tyler is their new mentor and coaching guru.

MT’s sidekick never fails to groan when we score .... his epic was when we were 4-1 down at dippers and our next two goals were met with “oh noooo” and palpable relief when Sergio’s header went just wide

Their pain is enjoyable as is the normal tenor of US commentators which is the direct opposite

The area around Upton Park is of course struggling..pub wise...Eastham Working Mens Club(a cracking place with real character and friendly staff) is trying its best to appeal to Hammers fans by holding pre match events with former players.i met Mark Ward saturday ..he was eager to show me the crowd upstairs in the function suite..Ward tried to rope me into the event £25 for the Ward/Trevor Sinclair question and answer show all you could drink(usual draught lagers,Ciders etc) and all you could eat,and a coach from the club to the game and back.i politely declined..we were off to the Boleyn and The Upton Park memorial gdns....

These are the gimmicks that any boozer in the area is going to have to do to pull punters in..those that dont try will simply die and close ..

I only bumped into Ward as he was looking out for Sinclair at the front entrance...he still hadn't arrived 40 mins later when myself and a group of mates left for The Boyeln..as we made our way down Barking rd we spotted Sinclair..on his mobile phone, clearly hoping that he wouldnt be interrupted by the group of fans who were now staring and smiling at him.... he kept his head down, and increased his walking/talking pace......unfortunately for Trev...he was going the wrong bloody way...we asked him if it was The Working Mens Club he wanted..he said yes...we told him he,d walked straight past it! He sheepishly thanked us,and turned back up the road....still on his mobile which never left his ear the whole time.

The Boyeln had a few in it..takings down 80% i understand..from their good old days....not sure if The supporters club was still open, prob not..
A much quieter area nowadays, obviously ..but a real feel of warm,,down to earth people......in contrast to the walk thru the shopping centre and the area around OS...i know which i prefer..but on the other hand i fidnt see any queues for bogs or bars at the OS ..so they must have got something right...

I,d encourage any City fan, unimpressed by the area around OS to get there earlier next time and try the old area-its not a long journey by tube ...
