Pep has said before he doesn’t like playing an all right footed back line, so if we have Cancelo at LB, he’s always going to favour Ake/Laporte.

And given we don’t actually have a left footed left back (even a converted one!) in the squad at the moment, I don’t see Stones and Dias starting together much until we get that position resolved.
 
Grealish on the right? that would surprise everyone, even WHU.
dont remember Foden playing much from right either, but has to explored as Mahrez was really bad vs Pool, taken off the ball so easily with not much tracking back.

He played stones and Dias for an entire season…

The reason stones isn’t starting is because he isn’t match fit

This is the season where he's meant to kick on and he's had a full pre-season.

If he was dropped for the first game it would be a pretty big indication that Pep doesn't have much faith in him and would probably be a real confidence breaker for Grealish.

He was always going to start IMO.

He played on the right a lot in his youth.
 
Lack of mobility in centre midfield will cost us.
Would’ve played Ake at left back with Stones at centre half.
Alvarez should be in the team ahead of Grealish as well.
I’d take a point.
