West Ham - Post match thread

On the stadium, I was quite near the back of the second tier, and was surprised by the good view, it wasn't as far away as I expected it to be, but the atmosphere, its awful, a lot of singers around where I was tonight, but almost every song faded and died after 1 rendition, hard to see how West Ham can recreate Upton Park in there, its just not a football stadium, I've always enjoyed the Upton Park atmosphere, especially at night games, but that will never come close for me.

Interestingly mate, the pre match hype from BT sport was all about how great the atmosphere was now at the ground and how they had found their home with Gold interviewed and trust me, the volume button had been well and truly put to the max whenever they sang their cute bubbles song.

The praise through gritted teeth was a joy to behold. Always a West Ham negative before a city positive tonight, from the lot of them

On about them not pressing us high last night, they couldn't. We managed to play through the press and then we had a decent chance on goal, the players executed the plan and hopefully they keep it going.

I thought Stones did well. Attacked the ball more than in the past I thought. I like that a lot better than he's holing off. Also he booted it high when he needed to which might imply that he no longer believes all the crap about him being some great footballer because he's not. Maybe he is just trying to be a good defender now which is all we ever wanted.

Imagine the team if we had a better LB? Kolorov was the cause of many a period of over passing in defense because he can't consistently get the ball foreard. I wish we had a better option there ... maybe be season's end Pep will figure this dilemma out.

It was a violent challenge and should have seen at least a yellow card but then again, Friend had decided very early on that West Ham could kick us to fuck so wasnt that surprised when it went ignored.

Did you see the challenge on Raheem?

Not even a foul apparently pmsl.

Not seen it mentioned anywhere so apologies if it has.. Did anyone else notice Cresswell on Sterling out wide in the break for KDB's goal? Dragging him and hacking at him as he tried to break free, was at the top of the screen as the ball was central, Linesman wasn't interested in it at all and was 5 yards away from it!
They'll be one or two who are a bit sore this morning, Fernandinho has probably got whiplash!!

I thought last night we were great. Sane , Sterling and Jesus looked great together in long term they will be exciting to watch. Feel Pep will have some selection problems. Who to play and were to play them. What shape we play or not play will be interesting. Yaya looked good in the defensive midfield role. So many attacking options now. There is a lot of positives out of the game.

How was the 6th guy? What's his name, I forget now :p

Go on I'll have a nibble.

Yaya was brilliant tonight, as he has been since his return to the team despite his obvious physical limitations. His current work rate just proves I was right the last 2-3 seasons in calling him a lazy ****, all I as every City fan asks is for players to give their all.

Maybe it's just me but after being to both games (top and bottom tier) the stadium 'can' get very loud. Tbf when they did get the odd thing going I think it sounds great, the sound really seems to stay in the stadium and not get lost, maybe because the roof properly covers the fans unlike parts of our ground.

As for the game, won't be getting carried away, but it's a tough job not to. I've always said let's see where we are at the end of Feb, so there's no judgement from me yet. I do love our front 3 though and as much as I really do love Sergio, they just have too much pace and a real team ethic for me to want him back in the starting 11 just yet.

Can't wait for Sunday!!

That front five of Silva, De Bruyne, Sane, Sterling and Jesus was just unplayable tonight. West Ham let us play and didn't put pressure on the ball but I don't think anyone could have stopped us the way we played in fairness.

Sane just plays like someone has created him as a player on FIFA, it should be impossible to be that big, strong, quick and have such incredible technique.
Even Sky had to acknowledge that by giving all 5 a score of 9, it was just glorious to watch last night.

Man City: Caballero (7), Sagna (7), Kolarov (7), Stones (8), Otamendi (7), Sterling (9), De Bruyne (9), Silva (9), Toure (8), Jesus (9), Sane (9)

Subs used: Fernandinho (7), Delph (7), Aguero (7)

Can someone point out to me the difference between Jesus getting booked for asking for a yellow card whilst for nearly 90 mins, West Ham players surrounded the ref at every single opportunity asking for a City player to be booked and even sent off yet nothing from the ref?

Anyone?

I don't even think that's anti-City bias, it's just this strange belief that communicating with your hands is some cardinal sin. It's bizarre. You always hear "ohh that's disgusting, nobody likes to see that." Seriously, you'd think the player had taken a shit on someone. Asking for a yellow with words is no different to asking for a yellow with a gesture, yet one is an automatic yellow and a smear on your reputation, whilst the other is accepted. So stupid.

All the attention at the moment seems to be on G.Jesus but for me Sane is really looking better and better with every game.
Very exciting player and I hope he keeps progressing now.

Also, give Yaya and Fernandinho new deals.

Firstly well done pep for having the bottle to drop your joey. Hope you see now why I rang you.

To me we were outstanding. People say West ham were poor, they were poor because we didn't give them a kick. The confidence in the team was so obvious, they knew they would keep a clean sheet so all they had to do was their bit and boy did they. I know the kids were good, very good, but to me motm was David. He was pulling the strings, again a world class performance from him. I felt for Aguero, brought on with Silva and kev gone, hardly going to get goals with nobody to play him in. I think the title is gone but I want to finish second and even better secure top THREE asap.
Oh and a quick word for Stones. welcome back.
