Not exactly. The combination of attributes is way different, that Barca midfield was more ballanced (even if you replace Yaya with Dinho or Gundogan). It was amazing to watch Kevin's and David's work-rate from day 1, their defensive effort (a clearly new element in their game, we hadn't experienced anything like that before, it only existed in Pep's mind).
Still, it's by far the most ambitious, the most daring concept in modern football, Guardiola himself never tried anything like that in Barcelona / Bayern. Yaya, Dinho, Gundogan, are not typical DMs, so basically you have a team architecture with 6, I repeat SIX, attacking minded players: 3 Fs, 2 AMs and 1 holding midfielder who could easily operate as an attacking midfielder himself (not the Busquets or Alonso type DM)! I said it in my first post here, personally I was shocked the moment I realised what the guy was after...
You'll have to go back, I mean back to football prehistory, with those ridiculous 1-2-7 attacking formations (lol) to witness anything ... close to that. And if you start thinking about the defensive prerequisites for this to work, well ... you should! Which is exactly what a guy being paid ridiculously high wages should have done in the summer. Had he done his job, we would be discussing objectives on a completely different basis tonight, trust me. Obviously, some serious decisions will be made in the following transfer window, just that people like David, Dinho and Yaya will be 1 year older. And I feel they deserve much much much more from this season...
Anyway, I still hope for what currently seems impossible. For there's no team in the league that can match the quality of our attacking game. City under Guardiola are an experience to watch. Not to mention, City under Guardiola will be mentioned in books discussing football tactics, football theory in general. They'll have a chapter of their own...
