West Ham - Post match thread

A reminder of what football fans used to be like. Fair play to the old fella, he's a credit to his club.

Not a fam, blud or innit anywhere to be heard either.

He will have seen the great hammers sides and says it as it is.

That was probably the best team performance of the season. However there was 1 flaw in that performance, that is we took our foot off the pace of the game, they should have gone and got a lot more goals then they did in the 2nd half of the game, as WHU were there for the taking. We easily could and should have had 3 to 4 more goals on top of what we scored. it may come down to goal difference as to whether we qualify for the Champions League or not.

I disagree, I think we did exactly what great teams do - we just killed the game, lowered the pace so everyone is less tired, got the important players off for some rest, brought in some fringe players so they're sharper if needed and feel included which is good for morale.

We could have had a couple more, but the benefit of the team basically only playing for an hour will be longer lasting IMO.

This^ Am getting tired of the notion we were 'good' because wham were shit. Yet before the match TV pundits, radio pundits, the papers and even on bluemoon were saying wham were coming into form and that we'd find it hard to contend with Snodgrass and Carrol. Well, I didn't notice Snotgrass doing ANYTHING to make me clench my arse cheeks. As for Carrol. Willy and our back line had him well and truly snuffed! That's why he resulted to dirty tactics... Yes, wham were shit. But that's more to do with our superiority, not their inadequacies!

Just to add another dimension to that. A lot of things were seemingly starting to go well for the Hammers during the last couple of weeks:
1. Some good recent results.
2. Resolving the Payet issue, Bilic trying to get a reaction in terms of team unity etc.
3. They had been humiliated recently in the Cup, a studying experience for Bilic who would take appropriate measures this time.
4. Perhaps most importantly, we were aware of direct rivals' results, and desperately needed to capitalise on them.

The pressure was clearly on City. Bilic was tactically outplayed once again, yes, still it's important the team showed character last night, effectively handling the pressure. Kevin's composure in the first goal helpled a lot (a fact mentioned repeatedly in Pep's post match interview), a fantastic first touch combination leading to Gabriel's excellent assist. We were unstoppable during 1st half with the result already determined, 2nd half practically being a formality. As already being said by a lot of posters, had we kept our motive during 2nd half, the scoreline could have easily reached water polo / handball standards...

This.

The old fella has, week in week out, seen some of the greats of our game and some of the great teams of our game. For him to say that is praise indeed.

i think dragging George Michael's name through the mud so soon after his death is a low blow :(

To be fair, it was the antics of Rooney and the rest that drove this particular thing. It is distasteful. They aren't meant to mob referees either and there should be more bookings for that. Nor clatter people like Carroll did either.

Absolutely agree about timewasting. People get booked for it near the end of a game but like you say, some buggers start from the kickoff.

Left to my own devices I'd book players for being managed by Mourinho.

I'd certainly give the RagDipperArseHaringeyMeedya something to froth about if I were reffing. I'd have players booked in the fucking warm up! Aggressive warming up! Reckless warming up. Speaking to me when they weren't captain for the day in the warm up. Exiting the coach in an aggressive manner. And red shirts!
