West Ham Thread 2013/14

Always liked WHU since 87 when we were relegated at Upton Park.

It's good to have them back in the Prem and doing well and long let it continue.

Very similar in our football beliefs and loyal support who stick by there club through thick and thin.

Carlton Cole is on the verge of signing a one-year deal with Crystal Palace, pending a medical later this week.

The striker is currently a free agent following his release from West Ham United at the end of last season and Ian Holloway is busy finalising a deal for the man who helped sink his Blackpool side in the 2012 play-off final.

Palace have been looking to bolster their attacking options following promotion to the Premier League and speculation surrounding an approach for Peter Odemwingie has cooled, triggering the Eagles’ interest in the former England international.

Cole spent seven years at Upton Park scoring 47 goals. He rejected a move to Stoke following the Hammers relegation in 2011, instead accepting a 50 per cent wage cut in a remarkable show of loyalty.

The 29-year-old frontman is expected to undergo a medical at Selhurst Park tomorrow ahead of his prospective move to south London, according to Sky Sports.

Cole was the subject of interest from Hull City and a number of teams in Turkey.

.. All the best Carlton

Always liked West Ham. My first City game my dad finally took me to in 1966/67
or somewhere round there. We lost 2 - 1 Ronnie Boyce or Clyde Best got the winner. The place was rammed and spent most of the game playing footy with a tin can at back of terraces until I could get back on dads shoulders. oh jumpers for goalposts.

West Ham remind me alot of City. It'll be a sad day for there fans when they leave Upton Park and we can deffinatly share their pain. But look where moving to the Etihad got us.

I hate Alladyce to but thats because he's a big fat c**t, but always rated him as a manager.

Who would of thought just two seasons ago, relegated under Avram Grant to the Championship, Spiraling debts with no manager, Parker, Upson, Ba, Green etc all sold... that we would now be back in the Premiership, finishing in the top 10, a fantastic stadium to look forward too and a exciting season in store all thanks to Gold,Sullivan,Brady and especially Big Sam !

Really cant wait for the season to start now, i don't like to be to optimistic but i can only see us improving on our fantastic season we had last year. The signing of Carrol is one of the most important we could have made, Keeping Diame is crucial. The signings of Adrian and Razvan look promising, hopefully Noble and Collison will have a injury free season, but we urgently need a back up striker. I predict a big season for Ravel Morrison we now have back from loan if he can keep his head.

Dont wish to piss on your chips mate but sullivan and gold brought the club in January 2010, the debts were covered, they hired Grant after firing Zola which means its fairly laid at there feet that West Ham were relegated.

Upsons contract had expired, Ba was released on a free due to the clause in his contract after being at the club for 4 whole months and Green stayed and was the keeper in the Championship before leaving on a free after promotion.

The debts were not covered -

Sullivan '' We’ve paid down some of the debt and injected some working capital, but there’s still more than £100m of debt.

‘In that, there’s £50m owed to banks, there’s £40m owed to other clubs. In addition there’s the club’s settlement to (former manager) Alan Curbishley, so the real debt is about £110m. ''

- Grant was a bad appointment and owners should shoulder blame for that, but they appointed the right man in Sam Allardyce and have done everything in there power to get us to where we are now.

'Vydra will not join Swansea but West Ham could be the perfect club,' says agent

Matej Vydra will not be joining Swansea this summer but his agent believes West Ham could be the perfect club for the Czech international.

The 21-year-old was the Championship's player of the season and his performances on loan for Watford have attracted interest from other Premier League clubs including Sunderland and West Brom.

Sam Allardyce has already secured the permanent services of Andy Carroll and Vydra's agent, Ondrej Chovanec, believes the strikers would work well together at Upton Park.

'West Ham are a very good club and Vydra would fit there very well,' Chovanec told Sportsmail.

'They have Andy Carroll and Vydra played very well with a big striker last season, Troy Deeney.
'I have spoken to West Ham but not for two weeks now, the ball is in their court.'

West Ham are still in the market for a second striker and Vydra could fit well into the club's plans.

Co-owner David Sullivan revealed on Sunday that the Hammers have set aside resources for attacking players and Vydra's pace would complement the strength of Carroll.

'We need goal scorers not defenders,' said Sullivan.

'We are happy with the rest of the team all we need now is pace and goals.'

Michael Laudrup was tipped to sign Vydra for Swansea but that move is now off after the club signed for Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony for £12million.

'I don't think they will try now, Swansea will not happen,' added Chovanec.

'Swansea have already bought Bony and I don't think they will buy another striker.

'If they try to loan the player then the answer will be no, it's simple.

'He would like to continue in London somewhere, which football player would not want to live in London?'

From the Daily Mail. Will Nolan play as many games next season?

Cheers Kun

Just done the classic Youtube search on Vydra, scored a few blinders last season - I just cant see where he will fit as a nippy striker the way were set up.

As for Nolan, he'll play every minute of every game no matter how crap he's playing!... unless he's injured
