West Ham United (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

He looked physically strong to me, and got stuck in, gave away a few fouls. I can see what Pep means he needs to improve his first touch, but a great athlete and will be very useful, especially driving forward.

He's got all the attributes of a great midfielder but he can't seem to tie them together. He looked excellent for Sporting against us when we played them a couple of years ago, but at Wolves he'd have some lovely turns and great strength to turn defence into attack but then didn't seem to have the final ball or finish in him. Hopefully Pep can help sew it together, as he's got the ability to be an excellent box to box midfielder. What's great with our current options in midfield is we've got so much energy in the middle of the park now. You wont get many being able to slice right through us, which has been an issue in previous campaigns and was largely solved by Stones slotting in.

What a great result, and a great second half, after what seemed a slow start. West Ham are decent but i think their quality is overplayed on here.

Having said that, the result could have been 3-6, I think both teams will come away disappointed they didnt score more in what was a surprisingly open game at points.

Haaland may not have had the best start to the season with his finishing, but the fact he is generally always there (to miss some) and is still has 7 league goals, is very encouraging!

Doku looks exciting.

If I remember correctly it was during Pellegrini's tenure that we developed the "scoop / lob" technique to overcome packed defences that was used twice yesterday, once resulting in a good save from a Haarland volley and once resulting in Bernado's goal.
Interesting point .
I remember Yaya Toure using this partc technique very very early in his City career..once in a pre season friendly away in Germany and again against spurs at WHL in the first game of the season,a 0-0 draw..

...Yaya would take an oppennent out the game in centre mid by simply scooping a dead ball up over the players head and down to land at the feet of a team mate..taking the piss basically...

I'd never seen that skill before...and didn't see it again as Roberto Mancini clearly put a stop to that...which was a shame.

Thought we looked good overall. Much the better side. Impressed with Doku and Nunes. Mixed afternoons for Bernardo, Foden, and Haaland.

have to laugh at the thick fuckers on the West Ham forum, clown after clown calling City boring, without one mentioning that their whole tactic is to defend deep with the whole team and then to try and hit the space in behind, and have done the exact same things for tears with little or no success
I sat in the home end sat,and tbh i didn't hear any disparaging remarks about us from fans around me,quite a few for the ref..

Pretty good atmosphere which rose to a crescendo when they scored and this lasted into the half time break, all hammers had a bounce in their step, lots of smiles at the bar downstairs( never seen a ground with so many bars and toilets ) excited talk ,all through half time, then the atmosphere dropped like a stone ...City had scored...Id missed the goal..,I knew that 2nd pint wasnt a good idea, but that warm feeling inside was priceless...deep behind enemy lines...but no outward projection of joy. ..that came when I later saw Doku's mint goal.A New form of Beauty.....

Great day out.

I couldn’t watch the match on Saturday and had to wait till last night/this morning to watch on City+ but I thought it was a cracking game. We made mistakes but fewer than WHU and at the pace the game is played they are unavoidable. The Hammers were good, defended deep and countered quickly. But we were simply better, something I had suspected from the match stats. This had been potentially very difficult game and I was impressed by the Hammers but we won and won well. A very impressive performance and even though I knew the score the match was still exciting on City+.

we where easily the better team although hammers played well and will win many games their.

we didn't deserve to go in 1 nil down, started fast and well. Well worthy of the 3 goals in the second half, all round good team performance and how good is doku against teams with a ten man defence. So its two marking haaland and two marking doku from now on !!

we are the best, simply !
